WHO ARE THE 5’ GIANTS?
The 5’ Giants are an unincorporated team of Filipino-American filmmakers in Hawaii who create films that are as diverse and colorful as our own cultural identities. We make our movies with passion, not money. This concept is foreign to most people, so think of us like a community baseball team that plays the game week after week because they love the game – not because they want to make money. We’re just like that, except we don’t have bats.
WHY THE NAME?
The team moniker was based after the fact that the average height of a Filipino person is 5’ something. Keeping consistent with our style of re-inventing pre-conceived notions, we like the idea of someone who does feats greater than they were built to do. We liked the contradiction in terms so much that we adopted it as our team name.
Who I'd like to meet: Actors & actresses who like to work on fun features where they can develop their "craft" instead of walking around in the background of some scene. Shoot a million scenes or shoot just one. It's all the same.
We'd like to invite you to Don Ho's Island Grill on April 18th to celebrate at The 808 Scene Zine's TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY! The show starts at 9:30pm, and will be featuring Upstanding Youth, Busekrus, Shawn Davenport, A Sedated Nation, and special performances by Cherry Blossom Cabaret. Come in 1920s or 1930s attire and get $2 off the $10 cover charge ($10 door, $8 pre-sale). Purchase tickets from any of the performing bands. Help us celebrate the last 2 years!
