5G Productions is a collaborative effort between J.J. Brown and Dan "The Deacon" Maier. Their business partnership actually began as a friendship, when the two met at the tender age of thirteen playing drums in their junior high school band. Through their formative years, it was a fascination with not only the performance of music, but the production of it that planted the seed for what is now urban music powerhouse 5G Productions.
The business partnership began to take shape when the two became roommates while attending Penn State University in 1998. Maier's passion for all things technical combined with Brown's creative musical abilities lead to the completion of two demo albums which Brown produced and Maier engineered and mixed. The albums featured local talent the two had discovered while spinning at dance clubs up and down College Avenue. The newly formed roster of talent included a battle M.C. named R-SON The Voice of Reason, a rapper/singer/songwriter named the1shanti, and an amazing freestyle artist with a knack for punch lines named louis logic.
Out of these early connections came the production duo's first taste of success in 1999, when 12" singles recorded with louis logic and, later that year, the1shanti were picked up and commercially released to critical and consumer acclaim. Brown and Maier used their quickly growing resume to open the door to the majors, and in 2000 were granted their first shot at mainstream success when they recorded "I Remember" with Mr. Cheeks (Lost Boyz) for his solo debut on Universal Records. It was during this process that Brown and Maier officially went into business as 5G Productions based out of New York City, and solidified their spot in the hip-hop ranks by releasing work with Apathy, Celph Titled, The Demigodz, Majik Most, Dutch Massive, J-Zone, Poison Pen, Skitzofreniks and numerous 5G discoveries. The two also flexed their ability to shape entire albums by executive producing louis logic's "Sin-A-Matic", "Alcohol/ism" by The Odd Couple and the louis logic and J.J. Brown release "Misery Loves Comedy" on Fat Beats Records. This was a milestone for logic and Brown, as it was the first time they were presented as an official group with Dan "The Deacon" Maier as sole engineer and mixer.
5G Productions is currently working hard in support of their most recent projects... a remix album for top selling band Gym Class Heroes titled "As Cruel As School Children, The Match-Up" made up of beats comprised solely of Hall and Oates samples, long-time friend the1shanti's self-titled Rawkus debut with production from J.J. Brown and mixed entirely by Dan "The Deacon" Maier, “Re-Release Therapy” which innovatively matches up the vocals from Ludacris’ grammy award winning album “Release Therapy” with beats designed strictly using samples from the Jackson 5’s catalogue, and "Sin-A-Matic: the 80's Edition", which is a special five year anniversary re-release of louis logic's 2003 cult classic debut album, "Sin-A-Matic". This time around, J.J. Brown and Dan "The Deacon" Maier of 5G Productions cleverly remix the album using beats contructed of the hottest samples from the 1980's, combined with new features from a slew of the underground's finest... as well as a few surprises.
