A HUGE ASS THANK YOU GOES OUT TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT OUR CD'S, MERCH, CAME TO THE SHOWS AND THE GREAT PEOPLE WE MET THROUGHOUT THE YEARS OF 5KS, THANK YOU.
Originally a 3-piece; now a 4-piece; they are… 5 Knuckle Surprise.
5KS was formed in early 1997 by founding members Mark Desmarais (guitar, vocals), Mike Rand (bass), and Shawn Rice (drums). Johnny “Gusto” Montour joined on in March 2003.
These rockers from Montreal, Canada have been busting out really catchy, energetic, fast as hell skate punk since '97. Their unique blend of heavy rhythms, catchy leads, and melodic vocals have propelled them to the forefront of the local music scene.
Within their first year of existence, Greenland Productions approached them to open for Diesel Boy (who at the time, was a major player on the So Cal punk scene). This opened up many doors for the band as they subsequently opened for the likes of Mustard Plug, Jughead's Revenge, as well as other Montreal notables, All the Answers, X-Large and Subb, to name a few. The band regularly tours Quebec, Eastern Ontario, and the Northern US.
After releasing a couple of independent recordings back in the late 90's, they took a 2-year hiatus to pursue other interests. (Basically school and work), but they've been back on the scene since 2001 with a whole whack of new songs.
They've been included on numerous compilations (Raw Energy Records, Freedumb Records, Simple Things Records, and the recently released Burnout Productions compilation featuring Allister from Drive-Thru Records).
Their debut release entitled “…Til it Hits You”, (Final Records, Dec. 2003) has been getting rave reviews, and excellent distro through a company called Local Distribution and is now widely available at HMV and Archambault record stores, as well as smaller outlets.
Catch these guys live and you won't be disappointed. They play an aggressive, from the gut, energetic and sweat filled show. Just don't get too close, cuz you might get kicked in the nuts….just come on out and you'll see for yourself.
..
