alucidnation is Bruce Bickerton.
He's been writing and producing music since 1992, amassing a broad spectrum of what he'd describe as 'good quality listening music for the home and the head'.
To the uninitiated, Bruce's music is probably hard to catergorize. It can range from blissed out ambience through to deep, dubby beats, taking in electronica and songs along the way.
Having been playing the piano (and various other bits and pieces) since his formulative years, Bruce always liked to improvise, messing around with chord structures and vocal harmonies. It was only when he took the plunge in the early nineties and invested in a small MIDI studio setup that he was able to realise some of those ideas.
This resulted in a scramble of activity over the course of the next ten years, when he spent a good deal of time recording rough improvisations on whatever medium came to hand, whether that was cassette tape, DAT or MD. These improvisations either culminated in finished pieces, or if the groove or feeling wasn't there, they were either discarded, or put to use in future compositions.
This way of working still informs much of Bruce's work these days, even with the advent of modern digital editing software :
"I like to get a loop up and running that's 'doing it', and then just hit the record button and let the vibe take me away for about 15-20 minutes. Out of this, there's bound to be something that's useable - sometimes the whole thing is!"
alucidnation eventually came to the attention of prolific producer Tom Middleton back in 2000. Bruce had produced a limited edition CD of material he'd been working on in 1999 (just 10 copies were pressed up!); one of which found its way to Tom and then by word of mouth to Pete Lawrence, co-curator of The Big Chill, a music and arts organisation based out of the UK.
Pete signed alucidnation up to the then fledgling Big Chill Recordings label on the strength of 'I'm Not Bad', a little ditty that Bruce had penned in a few hours.
Since then, BCR have released two EPs and two albums, all of which have been critically well-received. The sound of alucidnation has surfaced on lots of compilations throughout the world, and Bruce has lent his hand to numerous remixes.
He's collaborated with various composers of note, including Tom Middleton, Ulrich Schnauss, Laura B, Pete Lawrence, Another Fine Day, The Verbrilli Sound, Pitch Black and others.
Bruce is continually writing material for forthcoming releases....
Adviruz is the artist psedonym of Istanbul’s Pinar Gurcan, whose growing passion for sound is translated through her music. Since an early age, she has been listening and mimicking opera singers, writing melodies, songs and poems in which she spoke her mind and reflected her soul. All of which are evident on "Nightly Sounds", an 8 track album which is the equivilent of having a glimpse into a diary, learning of love lost, gained, a snapshot of the human condition from which we can all draw experience... All of these things are developed musically into minimalistic glitch, noise, idm, experimental music and microsounds, its influences reminiscent of work by artists like Tujiko Noriko, Mira Calix, Plaid and Björk.
Adviruz and Section 27 present "Nightly Sounds", an intricately woven and rewarding musical tapestry. Available now for free download.
To celebrate our first 27 releases on Section 27 Netlabel, we proudly present to you "Sectioned", a compilation of 27 tracks, amounting to 2 hours across two discs of twisted electronic beats, discordant melodies, haunting passages, broken ambience, bending senses of time and space, microscopic glitches, pounding bass frequencies, sounds between sounds, the human voice and the audible sensation of music dissolving in acid. This is the sound of your mind's eye. This is the sound of the Sectioned... Strap yourself in and enjoy the experience.
Also features a 75 minute bonus disc "Sectioned : Nonimxs", including 9 remixes of selected Section 27 artists by Nonima and 2 original tracks created by Silent Snow and Nina Kardec using existing Nonima tracks.
