60x60 is a music project containing 60 electronic works each 60 seconds in length. These 60 recorded pieces are performed in succession without pause, creating a 1 hour performance. The performance is played in conjunction with a synchronized analog clock. At the top of each minute in the hour, the domain of space for the composer has begun. Composers who have written works less than 60 seconds are strategically and artistically placed within that minute; the remainder of the minute is filled with silence until the next minute begins.

Each year the project starts with a call for works seeking music from as many different styles and aesthetics from composers around the world. Afterwards the project produces its Radio Request Extravaganza, a radio show where the composers can request their work to be played without being subject to a submission process. Then 60 selections are made to create a concert mix. If more than 60 submissions are received from a specific region or genre, the project endeavors to create a special "theme" mix those submissions. Once the concert season has completed its tour on and around electro-acoustic month, the project enters its collaboration period where we work with visual artist and other disciplines to further 60x60's exposure. The project concludes with the production of a commerical recording.

In conjunction with the ideals of Vox Novus, the mission of the 60x60 project is to promote new music. The project is specifically designed to include a large number of composers and present their music to audiences around. The project has taken a "grass-roots" philosophy with much of its success due to its collaborators, hosts, and director who are composers themselves.
