  • Bio

Relic is a four piece bluegrass band out of Louisville, Kentucky with a sound best summed up by the title track of their debut album "Livin' in the Past". Louisville, once the epicenter of bluegrass music, bears a rich history of bringing bluegrass and roots music right up to the cutting edge. During the 1970's this part of the country was home to a multitude of innovators like The Bluegrass Alliance, JD Crowe and the New South, and New Grass Revival. Like their predecessors, Relic is drawing from an array of influences playing straight ahead, driving bluegrass music and contributing their own compositions and original arrangements emphasizing both tradition and progress. In 2008 Relic released their first album, "Livin' in the Past," including five original tracks and an assortment of bluegrass and country standards. The project was recorded and engineered by Steve Cooley, no stranger to the world of bluegrass (formerly with the Bluegrass Alliance, the Dillards, and more). The album includes the fiddle work Jeff Guernsey, another virtuoso in the bluegrass and country music scene. Guernsey, who formerly worked with Vince Gill, Steve Wariner, and Jeff White, is originally from Henryville, In and appears on stage with Relic on a regular basis.
