David Bateman's Interests
|
| General | Drums - playing and accumulating/sorta collecting.
I'm currently playing in a few different things including a duo and a rock covers band I'm also doing other bits and pieces when called including a pop/rock/rap thing (I have no idea how you'd class it) called Spaghelli and the Dogbytes and backing my friend Paul Martin with his original stuff - check out the friends section again. | | Music | On my iPod (how cliche am I now?) - Crowded House, John Mayer, The Dave Matthews Band, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Rush, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Big Country, King Crimson, Sevendust, Steely Dan, ZZ Top, Metallica, Dido, The Allman Brothers, Joss Stone, The Bays, Ben Folds Five, The Blues Brothers, Dire Straits, Hanoi Rocks, LA Guns, Ian Jury & The Blockheads and a tonne of miscellaneous singles. Also some comedy stuff, loads of videos and perhaps most worryingly, some Girls Aloud too.Currently playing - rock, pop, blues and a little bit o'soul. | | Movies | I'll say The Shawshank Redemption (even though everyone seems to have this one) and Star Wars. Then there's Ronin, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, Pump Up The Volume, Fight Club and anything funny that's not Monty Python. I just don't get it. | | Television | I have a thing for crime programmes, especially the C & I channel and the Discovery Channnel. All three CSIs are great, Mythbusters is fun and The Simpsons rule. Also MASH, Scrubs, Friends, The West Wing, Fraiser, Red Dwarf and Porridge. | | Books | Something you put under table legs, I think. Unless it has drums in it, of course, in which case it's on the table and there to annoy everyone else. I'm not a prolific reader, but that may have been a tad obvious. | | Heroes | Neil Peart, Steve Jordan, Shawn Pelton, people who overcome adversity. |

David Bateman's Blurbs |
About me:
In a galaxy far, far away (back to the beginning that means)...
Stuff about me.
I was born and now I'm here (is that too deep?).
I was actually born in the back of a taxi in New York at 4am and it was raining. 'Twas a tuesday. When I came back to the UK I travelled around the country with my hippie parents in a commune until I was 11. At secondary school I was a bit different because I had long hair and beads, however, that all went by the time I was 16 and it was time to get a job. That's when life got really interesting - I joined the circus!
Not having been too rebelleous to that point, I thought I'd go full out. So anyway, I picked out a dull career as a tightrope walker (the irony now being that I fall over my own damn feet while standing still). Notwithstanding this, it was a good life for ten years until one day I fell off and landed on my head. Is anyone surprised to hear that, I wonder? Probably not. Anyway, now I felt fully qualified, I sought work as a professional drummer.
Two minutes into my career as a 'muso' I found that I, in fact, couldn't play the stupid things, and so as a talentless no-hoper I decided to be a guitarist instead.
Unfortunately, the guitar thingy didn't last due to the fact I have an IQ greater than 1, and so I ended up dealing with financial services complaints which leads us up to now.

Who I'd like to meet:
Normal people who aren't musicians. Failing that, people. If that doesn't work, dial-a-friend maybe? Something has to be said when you look at the contacts list on your mobile and think, Drummer...guitarist...bass player...Do I know anyone normal at all???
Obviously, the answer at this point is - no.
