| Generale | Lately, I am becomming more interested in smells. Maybe you have seen the commercial about how much of our memory is hooked-up to smells. For instance, I can still smell the honeysuckle I recall from a pretty good run in my old neighborhood a few years ago in early summer. The scent of an old girlfriend's hairspray and mousse while we slow danced in middle school is easy remember. The smell of frying bacon never misses. So, I am tinkering with the idea of throwing out my cologne and rubbing the wrapper from a reese's peanut butter cup on my pulse points. I think I might be more popular if I smelled like a favorite candy or popcorn. | | Musica | I am quoting a close friend when I say that any musical genre done well is worth listening to. But what do you think of: The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Radiohead, The Shins, Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd (with the "the" and without), The Kinks, Elysian Fields, The Waterboys, Rickie Lee Jones, Public Enemy, Deathcab For Cutie, PJ Harvey, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Kate Bush, XTC, Les Sans Culottes, Chuck Berry, Charlie Parker, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Faith No More, Cocteau Twins, The Clash, Aimee Mann, Miles Davis, Pasty Cline, Bjork, Kaiser Chiefs, BB King, Joni Mitchell, Queen, Air, Wilco, The Thrills, Janis Joplin, The Pixies, Supergrass, Django Reinhardt, Billie Holiday, Electric Sheep? This must be getting annoying. | | Film | I really love the moving pictures--from silly escapism to art house fare. These will do: Ordinary People, The Empire Strikes Back, My Life As A Dog, Cinema Paradiso, The Godfather, any Monty Python, The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Scent of a Woman, Raising Arizona, Strangers On A Train, The Ice Storm, A Night At The Opera, The Kid Stays In The Picture, The Science of Sleep, Dr. Strangelove, Evil Dead II, La Dolce Vita, Frankie and Johnny, Wings Of Desire, The Maltese Falcon, Spider-Man, Election | | Televisione | Generally, anything with monkeys in it. The Simpsons, The Office (both the American and British versions), Malcolm In The Middle, The Twilight Zone, Hell Date, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Space Ghost, Breaking Bad, Project Runway, The White Shadow, Star Trek, Sex And The City. | | Libri | Reading is, indeed, fundamental: The World According To Garp, The Shipping News, The Vampire Lestat, A Scanner Darkly, The Tender Bar, Diary of a Drug Fiend, Still Life With Woodpecker, In His Own Write, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Without Feathers, anything by Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde. Kurt Vonnegut and Mark Twain. I could also include Faulkner and Tenn. Williams, but I think enough is enough. You are kind to have made it this far. | | Eroi | My grandfather, who stormed the beaches at Normandy, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and paid for it with a lifetime of crippling alcoholism, my brother and sister, Ben Frankin, Dorthy Parker, Martin Luther King, Rod Serling, Muhammed Ali, Salvador Dali, Richard Pryor, Frank Zappa and the Amazing Spider-Man. |
