  • Bio

www.samsarauk.com www.facebook.com/samsarasounds As "one of the South's most exciting reggae acts", Brighton-based collective Samsara create an open minded and fresh take on the roots tradition. Their music pays tribute to the original innovators of the genre while refusing to be bound by any stylistic conventions. The result has been described as "a startlingly new angle on the Jamaican sound." In the short time since the release of their new "Good Omens" EP the band has been booked to play alongside reggae legends such as The Wailers, Mad Professor, The Wailing Souls and Toots and the Maytals. With a tightly woven live show which combines intricate musicianship with raw energy and infectious positivity, Samsara have become firm favourites at venues and festivals across the land. "Good Omens" is Samsara's third studio release, containing some of their most exciting material so far. From the genre-defying syncopated rhythms of the opening track, 'Move', to the melodic bounce of 'Effigy' and the raw, hypnotic dub of 'Follow You', the record is a fresh and hook-laden take on the genre, morphing the reggae sound into something wholly new and exciting. With a video and remix EP planned for the coming months and an extensive nationwide tour already under their collective belt this year, Samsara's hard work and creative vision have established them as "one of the best reggae bands in the UK at the moment." "The excellent Brighton reggae band Samsara, an outfit who do great credit to the enduring legacy of Jamaican reggae." - Latest 7 Magazine "One of Brighton's top reggae acts" - XYZ magazine gig review. "Taking some solidly ska and reggae influences right to the edge with the kind of abandon beloved of jazz musicians and mixing it with near gypsy levels of passion, (Samsara) turned left at the next corner of inspiration and started enjoying themselves. Witness the sheer dance floor bounce of "No Man's An Island" or "Mescalito". Wonder at the inspired transformation of mellow civilisation into a ska jumpathon that is to be found in "Wandering Minstrels". Fun and musicianship all in one place at one time! Not only refreshing to the ears but likely to encourage your feet to start moving!" - Bluesbunny Music Reviews - Album review (Nov 04, 2010) "I'd describe Samsara as a group that's taken Reggae as their model and built on the style using musical genres from all over the world and throughout the history of pop music to produce a startlingly new angle on The Jamaican sound. They do this with much panache and the result is a great album that deserves to be a great international success....It's perfectly blended and should stand as a paradigm to anyone with pretensions towards being a successful crossover musician." - Album Review at http://abi-rhodes.typepad.com "This Brighton based band were a whole heap of fun to watch. With their bouncy ska reggae beats, they were more refreshing than a glass of homemade lemonade. It's no wonder that the crowd couldn't help themselves jump a little higher and swing their hips a little faster." Review of Sunrise Celebration '09 - www.virtualfestivals.com "Samsara entertained the crowd very well with lively reggae/ska tunes that will make me search them out again, and clearly had pulling power as the crowd easily doubled in size by the time they'd finished.".. .. Review of Shambala Festival '08 at www.efestivals.co.uk "Samsara plunder folk, rock and psychedelia and take it to carnival to arrive at a polished finished product that defies categorisation outside of entertaining.".. Album review, Source Magazine.
