Well-written pop music; cats cats cats; Chuck Taylors; licorice whips; the smell of old houses; the company of my best friends; people who know when to shut up; short fiction by southern writers; microbursts; tilling the land; the elusive good night's sleep; my precious husband (not in that order).Music

Marty, I Want to Live!, The Children's Hour, A Face in the Crowd, Cape Fear, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Thousand Clowns, Jules & Jim, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, and just about anything made in 1961-62 in black and white. Many Albert Brooks films. Many MANY other films, mostly that involve life thrown at you in such a way that you're not prepared for it. I was reminded this weekend how fantastic The Station Agent is. The Fisher King. The ensemble cast of all of those movies that feature Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest and the like. The Hitcher. Big Fish. And Alfred Hitchcock is GOD.Television
What's My Line?, To Tell The Truth, Match Game '73; Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett + Bob Newhart shows; Roseanne; SCTV; Project Runway; The Soup (love that Joel McHale). And good lord - how could I have forgotten The Daily Show and The Twilight Zone?Books
I love books and I love reading. My life prohibits me from digging in as I used to. I used to read everything from James Joyce to Tanya Tucker's autobiography. I love words and I look them up if I'm not sure of their precise meaning. I keep a list of words I love and add to it daily. I think proper spelling is important. I don't care what the teachers nowadays say. They can to go to hell!Heroes
Hero is a big word, but I admire Susan Hayward, Barbara Stanwyck, Jean Stafford, Carson McCullers, and the Dorothys: Kilgallen and Parker, a lot. My sister, Dana, the strongest person I know in life.

About me:
Jaded but cautiously optimistic lark. I've released 2 CDs and a vinyl EP, and sung/recorded with numerous notables in Minneapolis and elsewhere over the past 25 years. If MySpace allows it, I will keep two sites; one for music, the other for opinions and jargon. Formed Hyperopia w/old friends Steve Eddy, Kirk Larson and Steve Dahlberg in 2005. After 20+ years, Mike Allmayer and I are together again working on a project. Todd Newman and I have some recorded songs we plan to release sometime in the near future. I am an immense lover of animals, with special worship reserved for cats, and work at a fantastic no-kill cat shelter in Topeka, KS. Meow, Baby!Who I'd like to meet:
I'd like to have MET Jim Thompson, one of the greatest pulp fiction writers to have ever lived, and I do mean LIVED. He remains a huge inspiration to me and has affected the way I view and approach writing.Details
