How does one come to the decision to form a metal band? Simple: you really like metal. And if the love for it is big enough, you want to create some yourself.
It must have been this line of thought that Kenneth (guitar) and Tom (guitar) have used. So they ran with it and started rehearsing and crafting songs.
The year was 2003 or so. I presume there wasn’t even an official first gettogether. The most important thing was they were able to breathe life into their musical ideas.
Starting with a drum sequencer, the first songs were written. Very crude and basic recordings but the foundations were there.
At that time, Kenneth was also playing guitar in Morrigu, a black metal band. There, he got to know the drummer, Wim ’Ketter’. When Kenneth proposed Wim to join Acephalous, he immediately accepted and after a few rehearsals, the band was ready to perform live.
After playing 3 or 4 gigs together and recording the first demo “star of death“, Kenneth and Tom decided to part ways with Wim because of personal difficulties. Luckily, their old drumsequensing pal was, of course, able to pull the job.
After a while, it was Bart Govers (bass) who stepped up to handle bass-duties. Again a threesome, they decided not to play live anymore until some decent material was created. So they rehearsed, wrote songs and rehearsed some more.
For quite some time, nothing was heard of Acephalous and a lot of people thought the band was dead. But something was brooding in the dark depths of Lembeek. And after that long period of silence, Acephalous came back with a bang.
Performing on two or three selected occasions, the band immediately rewon the hearts of the little group of rabid fans and absolutely convincing with their new song material, winning over more followers.
The time was right to record the new stuff and after long and hard work “Divine Purity” was released upon the unsuspecting flock of sheep (thanks to Rotten To The Core distribution).
Acephalous is known to play little few live shows, so see that you witness them if you’ve got the chance…
