Oblivion was formed from the ashes of a thrash metal band (Sanik). Tom, Rik, and Martin felt that they needed to take things in a different, more epic direction. The band set out to make original music that is both aggressive and memorable. Influenced by bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Arch Enemy, In Flames, and Slayer they began writing music.
Oblivion recruited new members Ben (guitar) and Dave (vocals). They worked hard during 2007 on solidifying new music through shows and practice. Everyone really enjoyed the band's live show and the demand for a demo recording become very high. In the winter of 2007 Oblivion completed work on their first 4-song demo recording. The self-titled demo was very well received and Oblivion began promoting it more heavily.
In early 2008 Oblivion worked on promoting the demo with numerous live shows in LA, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. They began playing shows opening for upcoming bands like Warbringer, Skeletonwitch, and A Life Once Lost. As well as destroying the stage with talented local acts like Vaylor, Rattlehead, Satriarch, and Boracho. Still without label support Oblivion continues to progress and develop new ideas. The band spent the end of 2008 working on new material for an ambitious full length record.
Now in 2009 Oblivion hopes to have all the new music nailed and ready to be recorded by summer. The record will see an independant release but Oblivion will put the time and money into making sure that it is top quality. They are looking forward to taking things to the next level and dedicated to providing metal fans with new and exciting music.
