  • Bio

Comprised of four of New York's most promising young performers of contemporary music, Tetras combines vibrant string quartet playing with a commitment to the music of today. Still in its inaugural year, the quartet is already establishing itself as an innovative and exciting ensemble, recently completing the world-premier recording of David Fulmer's String Quartet No. 2 to be released on Neuma Records. Future recording projects include Milton Babbitt's String Quartet No. 4 (the first since the Juilliard String Quartet's world-premier recording in 1988) in conjunction with a performance at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in celebration of the composer's 90th birthday. Other highlights of this season include appearances at Symphony Space and Samsung Theater, and a recital at Tenri Cultural Institute. Tetras is committed to promoting the work of young composers and looks forward to collaborations with composers Nico Muhly and Adam Schoenberg. The quartet has studied extensively with Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard String Quartet and with members of the Brentano String Quartet and Speculum Musicae. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tetras was founded in 2005 by four Juilliard students seeking to explore the boundaries of contemporary music. The string quartet provides compelling performances of works in a variety of styles and genres composed from the 20th century to the present. Their performances place contemporary music within a broad spectrum of classical music by linking the traditions of the past with the music of the future and today.
