Each participating film group is assigned a genre and a portion of the script synopsis. From there, each team has 60 days to write their portion of the script, then cast, shoot, and edit their submission. Each team submits their un-scored film to be judged by a panel of unbiased parties who reside in the southeastern United States. Five winners will be selected and their scenes will be inserted into the movie to complete a 90-minute feature film.
All the filmmakers will have their work featured on the DVD even if their submission is not chosen for the final movie. It is Movie Tao Pro’s and the Southeast Film Association’s intent to create opportunity and exposure for these hardworking southeastern filmmakers.
Movie Synopsis:
Nah, just kidding. We don’t want to give anything away.
… but here are some log lines to keep you sane.
“Peter’s in love with Sally. Sally’s infatuated with Greg. Greg’s involved with Jennifer. Jennifer’s into herself. At prom, they all get what they so desperately deserve.”
“Peter has 37 hours to blackmail a minister, thwart a cheerleader, and convince a celebrity to attend his prom. What won’t a desperate geek do for love?”

“6 DEGREES of GENRE” is an innovative filmmaking project created by Bren Pettengill and Chuck Fallaw of Movie Tao Productions. Its purpose is to connect filmmakers all over the southeast and to show the movie industry that there is a thriving film community outside of Hollywood. Movie Tao Productions is producing this project to benefit the Southeast Film Association (www.sefilmclub.com), whose mission is to create opportunity and exposure to southeastern filmmakers. Chuck and Bren are currently producing the first film out of Atlanta, GA, in what they hope to be a long running series, eventually bringing the spotlight and regular big-budget film productions to the southeastern United States.
The basic premise of the script alters the “6 Degrees of Separation” theory into a film that transforms between different genres all the while staying within the same storyline.
The project’s first film, written by experienced screenwriter/director/actress Bren Pettengill (“Chosen,” “Andersonville,” and ABC’s “October Road”) and screenwriter/actor Steve Denham (“Chosen”), with contributions by Chuck Fallaw and Hawk Pettengill, is entitled “6 DEGREES OF DESPERATION” and will feature these genres: Horror, Teen Angst, Suspense, Martial Arts, SCI-FI and Comedy. Movie Tao Pro will film the opening and closing scenes in Atlanta, GA.
The project has brought together filmmakers and musicians throughout the southeast, including Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Washington DC and more. Indie musician Shane Hines of Shane Hines and the Trance is the first singer/songwriter to officially sign on as a contributor to the soundtrack (www.shanehines.com). Also featured in the film and on the soundtrack are rock-n-roll Atlanta-locals, The Issues. This project has gained international interest, as well, attracting film crew participants in Puerto Rico.
