ON Saturday, May 16th New Britain Mayor will attend the Second Annual Rockin4TheTroops Benefit. Mayor Stewart will arrive to make opening remarks for 1pm. Rockin4TheTroops was created by Tom and Laura Deschenes, Berlin Residents. In 2008 they decided to put on a small party to send some comfort items over to friends and family in Iraq. The event soon snowballed into an all day music event with bands, raffles, food and about 150 in attendance. Tom vowed that if our troops are there next year we will do it all over again! This year, the event is being held at St. Jean's Baptiste Society, 209 Smally Street, New Britain. The Hall was generously donated by the St. Jean's Officers as well as their time to help staff the event. Bands from all across the state will be in attendance to play and have all offered their time. Many of which have members who have served or are currently serving. A Motorcylce Run will take place at 10am starting at the Guilford VFW and will arrive at St. Jeans at 1:30 sponsored by Bikers Against Animal Cruelty. We have received a huge outpouring of support from all over the state and beyond. We are expecting to see upwards to 400 people this year Donations: We are collecting comfort items to send to the troops, toothbrushes, travel sized shampoos, stationary or a a monetary donation in any amount is acceptable. There is no "cover' to get in.. For a list of comfort items go to givetothetroops.org Thank you.
