    Steinar Raknes (1975-) is one of Norway’s foremost jazz bassists and songwriters. With his fearless and explosive playing style, he is often compared with the legendary bassist and songwriter Charles Mingus. Many know Raknes through his work as composer and musician in the award-winning jazz trio Urban Connection, and for collaborations with artists such as Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Bobby McFerrin and Per Texas Johansson. After completing a Master of Arts (music) degree in jazz at NTNU in 2001, he has collaborated in a number of ensembles, including The Core, the Ola Kvernberg Trio and the Kirsti Huke Quartet and toured all over the world with his music.

Steinar Raknes ( 1975 - ) Norwegian bass player and composer.

Steinar Raknes er en av Norges fremste jazzbassister og låtskrivere. Han har en uredd og eksplosiv spillestil og blir ofte sammenlignet med den legendariske bassisten og komponisten Charles Mingus. Raknes er bl.a. kjent fra samspillet med Chick Corea i Trondheim Jazzorkester, og fra bandene Urban Connection, The Core, Ola Kvernberg Trio og Kirsti Huke. Bassisten leder sin eget band "Tangos, ballads & more" - m/ John Pål Inderberg og Håkon Mjåset Johansen

Raknes har vært viktig i utviklingen av norsk jazz de siste 10 årene, bl.a. gjennom bandene Urban Connection, Ola Kvernberg Trio og The Core. Bassisten avsluttet sine studier ved jazzlinja-NTNU i Trondheim i 1999, og underviste der fra 1999 til 2006. Bassisten har spilt på alle de fremtredene jazzfestivalene i Europa, på konserthus og jazzklubber på alle kontinenter og er medvirkende på et stort antall CDproduksjoner Raknes har samarbeidet med bl.a. Michael Brecker, Chick Corea, Per ”Texas” Johanson, Pål Nilssen-Love, Jonas Kullhammar, og Bobby McFerrin. Steinar Raknes har vunnet Spellemannsprisen en gang (2001) og har blitt nominert 5 ganger.
