關於我: I rented a surfboard in Galveston in the summer of 1963. Got hooked. Got my driver's license the next summer, and have been surfing ever since.
I am one of the organizers of Surfrider Foundation Texas Chapter. The first chapter in Texas. We now have chapters in: Houston (Texas Chapter), Austin (Central Texas Chapter), Corpus Christi (Coastal Bend Chapter), and South Padre Island (South Texas Chapter). We are organizing chapters in San Antonio, DFW, and Galveston. Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 coastal conservation organization. We are working to preserve the Texas coast and keep it open to the public.
Texas is the only state with an Open Beaches Act. This law guarantees that all 356 miles of Gulf of Mexico beaches are public. They belong to you, not the developer, or the front row beachhouse owner, not the hotel or condo. In Texas, it's YOUR beach. Surfrider is fighting to preserve your right to access and use the beach.
Two-thirds of the Texas coast is eroding at 2 to 10 or more feet per year. That does not include storm damage that can move the beach 100 or more feet in a couple of days. Sea level has been rising for 25,000 years, since the last Ice Age. Texas is protected by a string of "barrier islands" that extend from Bolivar to the Rio Grande River. The beach is moving toward Austin and continue to do so until the next Ice Age. Developers would like to create private beaches for their subdivisions. Private beaches, like California and Florida, generate higher profits, but they do so at the expense of the public who can no longer access what is really a public beach.
Get involved. You can make a difference. Hey, this is what the internet is for.
我想認識: Some people make the world go 'round, but most just sit and spin.
I'm looking for anyone who is concerned with preserving our planet.
People who want to make this a better place, and I'll bet that's YOU. Because you can make a difference, or you can just sit and spin.
