77 & Granite is kind of just a huge family, but here is the nucleus:
Avi (77) sings and plays Les Paul & acoustic guitars, bass, drums and shaky shaky egg;
Elana (Granite) plays telecaster and acoustic guitars, bass, and the pedal steel, and sometimes sings;
Niko sings and plays acoustic guitar, bass, organ, and piano;
Naomi plays the drums

clatter, chugging tugboats, dirty, cruddy, old refrigerators, lots of teeth in jars, a banjo, possibly another banjo, an oil rigger, and reconstructed country rock. AKA the most awesome band you have ever heard!
77 is a highway in the Carolinas. Granite is the Rock in the "Live Free or Die" State. 77 & Granite was a country-rock band from Brooklyn.
Avi & I started 77 & Granite as an all-queer, prison-abolitionist acoustic country duo. When we realized that all of our sessions ran late into the night and left us thirsting for more, we decided to put together a band. We experimented with electronic music, taught each other new instruments, and arrived at a slower, subtler sound. After several trips to New Hampshire to record our compositions with local country-rock and experimental musicians, we settled back down in Brooklyn with Naomi (drums) and Niko (guitar, bass, piano, organ). The 77 & Granite Quartet is often augmented with fiddle, vocals, drums, bass, and guitar playing by our friends and family. ~elana
**As of May, 2008, the members of 77 & Granite have gone our separate ways. Please check out Niko's work with Dan from the I Hate My Day Jobs, and a new country-folk project from naomi and elana called The Dove and the Crow.
