Joel Castillo, Ryan Castillo, Miles Brown, and Mike Dunn are artists who go by the name 77 Jefferson. They linked up in the summer of 2006 after a show that they all attended and decided to have a "session" in Mike's rented house in a basement in Kansas City, Missouri on 77th and Jefferson. Joel Castillo introduced his original reggae-inspired songs and the addiction began. Joel's refreshing original reggae style inspired the group's first self-recorded 7-song EP/Demo titled, "Songs For Selene." 77 played their first show in September of 2006 in Kansas City, Missouri. They released their debut album, "Sledgehammer" February 23rd, 2008 and have been touring for the last 2 years boasting over 200 shows in over 100 cities and 20 states. 77 Jefferson writes their own songs and Miles Brown records and mixes all their music. They have played many festivals such as Wakarusa 2008, Tulsa Reggae Fest 2008, Jah Roots 420 Reggae Festivals 2007 and 2008, Kansas City Reggae Uprising Festival 2009, KC Crossroads Music Festival and many more. 77Jefferson has shared the stage with many well known national and local artists such as Lee "Scratch" Perry, SOJA, Luciano, Sugar Minott, Junior Reed, Jah Roots, Part One Tribe, Ossie Dellimore, Cas Haley, Steve Ewing and many more. Their debut album, "Sledgehammer" is available on itunes and cdbaby.com. 77 Jefferson is now finishing a collection of acoustic, beats, and rare songs for a second album titled, "Rarities," which will be available exclusivly on CDBaby and I-Tunes December 15th of 2009. Currently, 77 is in a moving transition to Oahu, Hawaii where singer/songwriter Joel Castillo and Miles Brown (the band's guitar player/keyboardist/recording producer) will spend the better part of 2010 expanding 77's music to the masses where much love has been shown.
