7: Es-El (pronounced Seven SL) aka The Seven Sins of Life, are set to release their Full Length Album "What Is The Color Of Sound?". This is the first for the two young lads that have grown up moshing, raving, tagging & skating to the bass lines of hardcore, hip hop, indie, garage and metal. At there young ages, they acknowledge the influences of Sonic Youth, the Kinks, Deftones, and Bjork as readily as they do The Fugees, Portishead and DJ Shadow.
Es-El (pronounced S L) and 7evin (pronounced Seven) eponymous debut LP is the lit fuse to set 2008 on fire; taking in everything from ska to UK garage, this is Rock music with the easy lad dish charm of electronic produced DJ music, sub-bass beats that ask you to do more than just raise your hands. Their song 3d Beatz sums up the same breathless explosion of urban pop energy of Bjorks Hyperballad or the Specials Too Much Too Young. While wrapped up in drum beatz born out of lives misspent coming up in house and garage raves while they were coming down listening to Portishead.
7: Es-El compel you to rake over the coals of new wave, hip hop and punk for reference points, although it seems odd for a band whos members were barely born in the 80s. Looking through their interests catalogue youll find The Specials, Bob Dylan and the Beatles alongside Biggie Smalls and Method Man, Blondie and the Police next to hardcore and jungle tunes. Songwriters 7: Es-El have no prejudices about when and where music's come from. "We've always been different to our friends in that they don't really listen to old music," says 7evin. Their lyrics tell small-scale tales of young urban life: micro sagas of street corners and party politics. "We write songs about everyday life," explains Es-El, "try to tell a little story about what you see around you." While their catchy song Headphones might be the nearest they come to a love song, they both deal with dating politics and romance with a refreshingly real straight from the shoulder honesty that exudes through their lyrics.
The Seven Sins of Life are no music industry lab rats. Like 1980's groups such as Blondie or the swaggering slang of the Beastie Boys that fuelled both urban and suburban culture. 7: Es-El is the proof that Northern California has no need for clicky trend obsessions, this is music born out of bored youth's enthusiasm. Doing for Nor Cal's less glamorous suburbs of Vallejo, Sacramento and Oakland, what Paul Weller did for working, then lobbing the same grenades the Damned chucked at Croydon.
Their EP, "An Autobiography of a Nobody for Everybody" is now Available for Sale through iTunes & Rhapsody.
Their Full Length Album "What Is The Color Of Sound?" will be available Late Summer/ Early Fall
