7k is a melodic pop/rock power trio from Orange County, California, dedicated to creating an unforgettable, interactive rock show experience for its audience. The band’s three members, Jeff Garvin (vocals & bass,) David Neil Black (guitar & backing vocals,) and Corey Manske (drums & backing vocals) sat down to create the new iteration of 7k in the late spring of 2007. After playing in many different bands across the Western U.S., the three were left hungry to create something fans could really sink their teeth into; to write songs and play shows that left the audience feeling inspired and invigorated.
In the summer of 2007, 7k met and began working with producer Eric Rathgeber, who saw a spark of something inspiring in the trio. Rathgeber signed 7k to his Long Beach-based independent record label, Cement Records, and began putting 7k through a rigorous development process. The next 18 months proved to be a series of challenging experiments for the members of 7k – writing, re-writing, recording, erasing and re-recording, shooting endless hours of video footage, and attending life-altering training weekends, all in the name of creating a truly inspiring audience experience.
In the midst of all this development and recording, Garvin, Black and Manske, along with some close friends and fans, created Spark Lounge, their own private underground rock club, hidden away in the hills of Orange County. Spark Lounge became a speak-easy-meets-rock club that featured rock bands, acoustic acts, and local magicians as well. 7k began to develop their live show while playing with some of Orange County’s best independent performers.
In the fall of 2008, 7k started recording tracks for their soon-to-be-released (and currently nameless) first album as a power trio. During the spring of 2009, as the singles were being mixed, 7k produced their first music video for “My High Life.” With a summer of local shows booked and a national tour planned for the fall, 7k is finally emerging from the studio as a full-fledged musical entity, and they can’t wait to start inspiring audiences.
