Yes, we all know that 'the band' is getting together for a rockin reunion show and all that hoopla, blah, blah, yeah. But that is not why I am posting this. Instead of the constant barrage of self indulgent free advertisement postings, I thought I would do something different. A history lesson. That's right. This will make you appreciate the massive rock experience more through the learning. Learning makes everything fun! Today's lesson is the origin of the name 7stones. It is a sad but endearing tale about a young boy, a saw blade, and a zip lock bag. It won't take too long to tell because I get teary eyed when I speak of it. One day our young Sherman Prim, aka the rza, was walking home after a blissful day in the public school system of Poughkeepsie, NY. Having always taken the long way around the old sawmill due to a perceived bully element that sometimes hung out there, he decided on a change. Our young hero decided to not be bullied, not be scared, stand his ground, make it through because dammit - this was America, and it cut like 10 minutes off his trip. This was a mistake. It was here in that saw mill where he would find not a bully, nay, but a stray animal that would forever change his life, and give a band a rocking moniker. It seems an old tabby had gotten stuck in the rafters of one the milling rooms. Young Sherman could not let this pass. He easily climbed the large commercial grade table saw in his 1970's blue super short jogging shorts - think Olivia newton john. That boy was gettin physical. Ray skillfully swooped up the small defenseless creature in his arms and with a big smile on his face proceeded to dismount the table saw. Unfortunately, he forgot he was holding a cat - one of the least understood and stupid creatures known to man. Instead of gratitude the cat freaked out causing Ray to loose his footing. The f-ing fur-ball also triped the switch on the saw causing the deadly blade to turn below young Prim's feet. As he fell towards the blade his life flashed before him. He promised himself and the lord that he would stop touching himself so much and wash his hands after going number two. But alas, the good lord had something scary and wonderful planned for him. He fell on the surface straddling the blade and one of the family jewels was loped off. It rolled like a wet meatball on to the sawdust covered ground of the mill, where the idiot cat started slapping it like a plaything. Ray reacted with the haste of someone who wasn't ready to give up half of his manhood. He scooped up the dusty nut and place it in to a zip-lock bag containing his leftover Frito-lay chips. Fortunately for us the doctors were unable to re-attach the item which left us with the gift of a man with the voice of an angel. And as a side gift a very appropriate name for a band - 7stones - four members - you do the math. Anyway, that is why Ray hates cats. See you at the show.
