The 80/20 Rule "Northeast" - epic and aggressive alt.rock release
from unlikely bandmates.
If The 80/20 Rule was a drink, it would be like mixing vodka, sawdust,
whipped cream and some PCP. Now, ordering that wouldn't really be good
for you. But - in the bands case the bandmembers' disparate
backgrounds actually makes for great songs and a truly unique sound.
The band's members comes from grindcore, metal, electronica and
indierock, and combined their inheritance sounds like a sort of 90's-
Radiohead/Manic Street Preachers/Hüsker Du-vibe. The tracks still have
a consistent core - Mattias' songwriting and Jimmy's vocals.
It was early 2007 when the four-piece set up shop in the northern city
Gävle in Sweden. William and Mattias (who share a commercial recording
facility) realized they both had a soft spot for american band
Copeland, and decided to start playing. They early brought Pär in on
bass, but Jimmy joined the three-piece somewhat later. When seeing
Jimmy acting and singing in a dystopian play ("Aniara" by Swedish
writer Harry Martinson), Jimmy was asked to join just weeks before
recording their first EP.
The get together of the band resulted in an EP called Solve The
Problem Underwater which was distributed by iTunes in the autumn of
2007. Shortly after the release the band left the studio for a small
tour throughout Sweden where they amongst other things played as
support to swedish singer/songwriter, Miss Li .
The first full-length album "Northeast" is set to be released during March by label Dither. The band will be playing live spring/
summer 2009. The album is recorded in Kingside, Stockholm and at The Overlook in Gävle, most tracks with producer Eskil Lövström (Refused, Starmarket, Hell Is For Heroes) during several months which gave the band enough time to explore their influences and create their own dirty and unique
sound.
