About me: 826 Valencia helps students, ages 8–18, to develop their writing skills. Whether the students are working in the realm of fiction, nonfiction, or English as a second language, we are here to help them explore their love of writing. We offer free drop-in tutoring, workshops, and storytelling. We also help students create their own story collections, zines, and other publications.
Our method is simple: we assign free tutors so that the students can get one-on-one help. It’s our belief that great leaps in English skills and comprehension can be made within hours if students are given concentrated help from knowledgeable tutors.
In addition to drop-in tutoring, we offer a number of in-depth workshops, in which professionals teach a variety of topics to the students interested in learning additional skills. These include, but are not limited to: creative writing, journalism, film, design, photo manipulation, comics, and publishing to the Web.
826 Valencia’s facilities are available as a free publishing resource, and our volunteers are available to assist with school and extracurricular student publications.
We hope to support area teachers in getting their students excited about writing, while also helping students learn how to better express their ideas through the written word. We encourage teachers to bring their classes in for field trips, invite us to visit their schools, and urge students needing extra help to come by during our drop-in hours.
Who I'd like to meet: You! We've been blessed by offers of help, and we’re in the process of making sure we properly respect and utilize all volunteer offers. Right now, we are looking for a few more volunteers to help us with our In-School program. Also, we can use volunteers with software skills, advanced writing skills, or advanced design skills. Please never forget, you are at the heart and soul of what we do.

Hey 826 Valencia,
Remember me? Maybe I haven't been the best of friends lately, but just give me a chance! You ROCK! Please check out my video demo of my patent-pending Cellocaster, which is a cross between a guitar, a cello, and a violin. Am looking for a major guitar manufacturer to license the design. Am also looking for studio or touring work playing the Cellocaster. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hope you have a fabulous new year!
all the best,

The PINK REVOLUTION is putting together a bus trip from SF to DC to be part of the historical Obama Inauguration day.
A few phone calls ago, I find myself in the living room of Suzi Chang. The founder of the suhweeet PINK REVLOUTION!
SUZI IS A REAL LIVE COMINC BOOK CHARACTER.
Just to give you an idea of what she is all about:
*** The Pink Revolution is a mind, body, spirit movement of love, healing, humanity, and raising consciousness. It's the Evolution we are secretly yearning for and dreaming about. It is happening regardless of our beliefs. It's that feeling deep inside of you, it's pure joy and love, the absence of fear. So many people around the world are waking up to this every day, realizing this feeling, realizing that we are living in the middle of a dimensional transition in the path of human spiritual evolution. People of all ages, all places, all beliefs, are joining together in this wonderful manifestation of light. We are all connected as one, lets let love take us there together. Viva la Revolution! ***
I am spreading the word, calling out the supporters, collecting tea, and, why yes... I am jumping on the bus. We will be leaving asap and stopping in Austin, New Orleans, Montgomery, Santa Fe as well as others. Our grand array of lovelies will of course be ending in the District Of Columbia -- Hopefully by January 17th! Mi/Our Hometown! I HAVE TO GO. I HAVE TO SURRENDER, I HAVE TO TRUST IN THIS AMAZING UNIVERSE! Are you in? YOU ARE INVITED TO COME TOO! ** PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!! **

A great poem does things to you. Divine and nearly frightening things, like knotting up something inside you, or making your heart slip into an erratic beat, or catching your breath, or causing tremors, fevers, daydreams, sweats, inexplicable bliss.
Congratulations to the winners of TSP’s Annual Poetry Contest!
First Prize: “Northward” by Koh Xin Tian
Second Prize: “Sock Puppet” by Malcolm R. Campbell
Third Prize: “Reunion: 30 Years Too Late” by Lana Maht Wiggins
Honorable Mention: ”Selected Love Letters I’m Still Trying to Write” Kelli Russell Agondon
A special thank you to our honorary judge, poet Dorianne Laux.
Enjoy great poetry, fiction, non-fiction, book reviews, cigar reviews, and an interview with our feature artist, Sue Hughes. Watch for a new call for submissions, including our second short story contest.
Virago's latest blog is by author GILLIAN SLOVO. She writes about the inspiration for her new novel, BLACK ORCHIDS, published next month. Please come and read it.
Hello new friend, Thanks so much for being a part of the story, here. I just signed the patent application a couple weeks ago for my new instrument, the Cellocaster, so it's now officially "patent pending." Also, our page has been in the top 50 on the myspace Americana charts for the past couple months, and is hopefully climbing! I will be accompanying Dan Bern on a tour of the East Coast/Midwest end of May/June, so check the calendar for a gig near you! Hope this finds you well. Have a great week! peace, love, and prosperity, Paul Kuhn Cellocaster, Violin, Vocals, Zrii Milwaukee via Aspen via D.C. USA Zrii page: www. myspace. com/zriipaul
Utah Phillips is very, very ill. He can no longer perform and urgently needs financial help. He has given so much to the One Big Union and progressive people everywhere. Now is the time to show him what we learned from him and to put into practice the solidarity he taught us.
I.W.W. Musician, Singer, Poet, Writer, and, most of all Organizer - Utah Phillips has spent his life uplifting the spirits of all struggling against the bosses to build a better world. At all his concerts he had it stipulated that wobblies would be present to fundraise and organize.
He has been the voice for "...all those thousands of unnamed wobblies buried in unmarked graves throughout the west." Don't let that voice go unanswered.
