My bansuri playing is heavily influenced by the makam tradition, but I can never stray too far; the warmth of the bansuri and raga are too delicious to ever wander away from. My ongoing path has been to follow my creative impulse - even if it leads me away from, and often brings the wrath of, a lot of the traditional mindset. It's taken awhile, but I am finally finding my voice and head-space that I feel honors the source of these traditions and still allows me the freedom to go straight to my bliss without apologies. As I stop trying to be what I am not, I find my music gets clearer and stronger. I hope that makes sense...!
