84001 began in upstate NY as a lo-fi/drone/experimental music bedroom recording project in the mid-1990's.
A short-run self released cassette was distributed in 1997 to a small number of college radio stations, independent music magazines, and friends.
More tracks were recorded in the summer of 1997 and another tape release titled '84001-prospectUs' followed.
In the fall of 1998, '84001-whatwouldhealthiswoundedsoul?' was released. Masters and any copies of that tape have since been lost.
From 1999-2005, 84001 was dormant.
84001 returned in Nashville, TN in late 2005. By mid-2007, the cd-r 'we look for things to make us go' was completed.
Jimmy Thorn joined 84001 in 2008. The band began focusing on live performance and has been playing shows in Nashville and throughout the southeast US.
As a duo, 84001 has released the CD-r "The Search for Incandescent Glaciers" and the track, "Che'el'ah," for a split 12" with psych-folk artist Ancient Ocean.
84001 explores a variety of sonic territories through use of guitars, synths, and other electronic hardware. Influences include experimental and ambient music styles, drone, psychedlic, minimal, 8-bit, americana, hip-hop, kraut, post-rock, pop, shoegaze, dub, and noise.
Most 84001 performances are designed specifically for each location using both composition and improvisation.
Hey, I recorded a new song yesterday, it's called Masquerade--based on the ballroom scene of Romeo and Juliet. Just wanted to stop by and give you the free download if you'd like it and haven't picked it up yet:
I hope you enjoy it; if you do, please pass it on to your friends and spread the love :)
Are you guys playing at Dino's really close to that high school in East Nashville?! That place has always looked so intriguing to me! I will for sure be there.
The next BERLIN is right around the corner, at a new space. Expect bigger sound, lasers, lights, and Chicago-style funky jackin goodness. See you next Friday! Click below for more info:
sorry we couldn't make it this weekend on either end. Brother Richard actually busted his head wide open and was out of commission. But you all seem to have plenty of upcoming shows, and we'll definitely make it out.
Thanks for the add, I love your sounds btw, great!
If you get a chance, please take a listen to our first Chill out release "Beach Music, Cafe Music & Bar Music Collection" by ACO Ambient Chill Out. We'd love to know what you think of it!
