Live, scripted, unscripted, in front of an audience, in-studio or out, on the red carpet, in a suit, or even a tutu, Steven is that brand of on-air personality who makes his guests feel at home no matter where they are and all with the sensibility of a late-night talk show host. Even during the day.
Since landing his first hosting job, he has interviewed some of music and film’s biggest stars from Grammy Award Winning Green Day and Madonna to Academy Award Winners Hilary Swank and Sir Ben Kingsley.
After graduating from college, Steven moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career but instead scored a hosting gig for SPIN Magazine’s television incarnation SPINTV. From there he became a VJ for VH1 and added A-listers like Stevie Nicks, John Mayer, and Usher to his interview resume.
Steven was then handpicked by Fuse to host IMX, the network’s first live music/talent interview show, which became Daily Download. Following Download, Steven was awarded his own daily program: Steven’s Untitled Rock Show, which ran an amazing 700 episodes. He also hosted The Sauce, Fuse’s daily live show talking to award-winning entertainers like Adam Sandler and Jerry Bruckheimer as well as performing in The Sauce’s comedic YouTube music videos. He was the host of the music magazine web show the Myspace Music Feed which added superstars Brad Paisley, Rob Thomas and Lady Gaga to his interview roster. His show on Fuse, Distortion, an alternative music video show featuring interviews with not only popular bands like Fall Out Boy and Third Eye Blind but celebrities including Sienna Miller and Patton Oswalt. Steven worked the red carpet at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards for Myspace and CBS.com interviewing everyone from Sugarland to MGMT and can seen interviewing Lewis Black for the cable channel Epix new web series, Epix Live.
Steven’s work has been seen in print as a columnist for the magazine Alternative Press, been on Fox News, ABC Morning News, the Today Show, and is a frequent commentator on CNNs’ Showbiz Tonight. Additionally, he was the Executive Producer for Steven’s Untitled Rock Show, wrote and directed the shows promos, and made his musical debut singing backing vocals on Riot!, the platinum-selling album from Grammy nominated act, Paramore.
Recently Steven was hired by Chevrolet as their official Music Cruze-arati; given his own Chevy Cruze, he’ll be covering the most exciting and unexpected music events in the country.
Iggy Pop referred to Smith as “the slightly endearing TV host” and Steven feels that’s a flattering and accurate compliment–although it’s still up for debate which one of them has better abs.
