WNKU first signed on the air in April 1985 as Kentucky Folk Radio and featured a mix of commercial free folk music and NPR news programming. Over the years, the folk music format evolved into what is called Adult Album Alternative in the radio industry. What does that mean to you? It means, just like you, WNKU has diverse musical tastes. We provide a mix of eclectic music from multiple genres including rock ‘n roll, blues, Celtic, bluegrass, Americana, R&B, classic country, pop, and yes, folk. WNKU also provides the best mix of local and national news with the local edition of NPR’s Morning Edition, BBC newscasts, and local reports throughout the day. All of this has led the readers of CityBeat Magazine to name WNKU the Best Radio Station in Greater Cincinnati four years in a row and six times overall.
WNKU can be heard on 89.7 FM throughout Greater Cincinnati, on 94.5 FM in West Chester/Fairfield, and worldwide at www.wnku.org. We also broadcast on HD, at WNKU HD-1.
WNKU is non-commercial, listener-supported public radio. We rely on the contributions of our listeners to do what we do, and we think it’s the best system around. Give us a listen, check out our website, and please, consider a pledge of support to WNKU.
Thanks for listening and, please, tell a friend.
