About me:
Save Our Somerville is a non-profit oranization dedicated to providing a voice to those who feel they have no voice in Somerville, Mass. Through community outreach, arts programs and support of youth events, SOS wants to strengthen what we believe are the dimishing community ties that make Somerville an ideal place to live.
Who I'd like to meet:
SOS is currently pending federal non-profit status. Until then, our friends at the Community Action Agency of Somerville are handling financial matters. To make a contribution, send checks to: Save Our Somerville, In care of CAAS 66-70 Union Square #104 Somerville, Ma. 02143

Thank you for the add and for your support in this vital cause to increase the
effort to EDUCATE our youth of the dangers of drugs and violence.
Our future generation depends on the youth of today.
Alcohol and Drugs are plaguing our society and we need to attack it head on
where it is digging its roots; with our youth in our schools.
Knowledge and Truth are the key to help them stay clean.
They deserve the TRUTH about all of the drugs they will incounter.
They are simply too smart to accept the old 'Just Say NO' adage.
Todays teens want to KNOW for themselves,
and a rebellious society we have created.
They will seek the truth themselves and we must educate them with it.
That's what they respect; That's what they deserve!
A NEW D.A.R.E. REQUIRES A NEW APPROACH!
Please help spread the word and tell your friends about D.A.R.E.
Feel free to visit D.A.R.E. online at www. dare. com for more info on starting
a D.A.R.E. program in your area and/or to show your support.
Peace :-)

Love your neighborhood corner store? Yeah, so do we. Show it off in all its splendor -- including its fresh produce -- by throwing a Bodega Tasting Party.
Bust open your Bodega Party in a Box for recipes, shopping tips, invitations and even a hot shopping bag and party decorations. You can be a party of one or invite the whole neighborhood, on one night or every night of the year. $35 plus shipping.

Your Bodega Party in a Box funds the Food & Liquor project, which helps get more fresh produce into local corner and liquor stores, and other Neighbors Project initiatives.

Save Our Homes Walk

Save Our Homes Walk

Feb 28 2008 3:52 PM

Hi, everyone - we're getting ready for our 2008 Save Our Homes Walk, and we need all the help we can get... Pledges, walkers, sponsors - you name it. Please help us provide emergency assistance to Somerville residents to keep them housed (which is SO much more cost effective and less traumatic than having to re-house folks after they've entered the shelter system). Please help spread the word. The Walk will be on April 27, 2008 at 2:00. We'll leave from Somerville High and walk by examples of affordable housing available in our city. Thanks for your help!

This year, Teen Empowerment will hold its first Somerville Youth Peace Conference. The Conference will feature a sophisticated presentation that addresses youth issues through the powerfully engaging vehicles of theater, music, dance, spoken word, rap, and public speaking. Teen Empowerment youth develop these presentations to best communicate their messages of hope, non-violence, and the need for responsible behavior to support positive changes in their communities and schools. Participants will share their thoughts on these topics in interactive small group sessions designed to engage youth in dialogue, resolve conflicts, build tolerance, and help teens to think deeply about the root causes of the issues they face. The day will also provide information about educational and social service programs and opportunities for youth to take positive action to help end youth violence in Somerville.

Participants
Through a collaboration with more than a dozen community groups, over 50 youth will spend 8 weeks planning the event, which will attract about 600 Somerville youth and adults. Most participants are between 13-20 years of age. In addition, about 50 adults, including parents, youth workers, teachers, police officers, TE funders and board members, and conference volunteers will also attend. The Conference is open to the public and youth and adults of all ages are welcome to attend. We hope to also get about 20 corporate and individual volunteers who will help make the Peace Conference a success.
