8th Street Rox has been rocking Pittsburgh since 1981 when Mike Filosemi formed the band in his hometown in Pitcairn, PA. The name came simply enough - Mike was visiting a local tavern on 8th Street in Pitcairn, drinking Rolling Rock with the guys and trying to come up with a name....the rest is history! 8th Street Rox has played just about every bar and club within an hour or so of Pittsburgh, as well as all of the major local festivals. The band has played steady, working almost every weekend since the early 80's. The group's incredible staying power is a testament to the band's great sound, energy, and enthusiasm. Five of the band's 6 members have been in the band since 1988! Two have been in the band since 1982! Drummer Allen Muckle is the "new" guy with only 3 years under his belt.
8th Street plays a great mix of originals and covers from such artists as John Hiatt, Roomful of Blues, the Jukes, and Springsteen. The band released its only CD to date in 1999, "Sittin' Pretty", containing 14 great 8th Street Rox "classics". The song "Sittin' Pretty" was featured on a Pittsburgh "Best of the Burgh" CD compilation. After 25 years, the band is still rocking strong, heading into the next 25...
Our CD "Sittin Pretty" is still available - mail a check for $16 ($14 plus 2 for mailing) payable to Phil Brontz. Mail to:
