About me:
The Wheelers are the third and fourth generations of a venerable Northwest timber family. Their only connection to the family's pioneer spirit and legacy is the comfort of its wealth and a beautiful cabin on Mt. Hood. Dark desperation lies below the family's attractive surface.
One weekend while up at the mountain cabin, two hikers stumble into their lives. It seems the hikers have arrived just in time to save the Wheelers from themselves. Even if that's not what anybody has in mind.
The principal photography for this feature length film was shot in one weekend at an acting retreat. Four of the six actors did not know that a film was being shot.
Only the director and the DP had seen the script.
The result is an uncommon hybrid of documentary, scripted narrative and improvisational filmmaking.
Shot in 24p and HD in the Mt Hood National Forest, Portland, Oregon and New York City. All scenes were shot with a crew of three or less.
The budget was less than five thousand dollars, financed by the director and the actors' fees for the "retreat".
We almost gave up on Made Crooked. An opportunity presented itself to let the original footage serve as a rough draft for a low-budget indie starring name actors. We had actor commitments and a producer but decided the original experiment deserved to make its way into the world on its own.
