A Jazz, Rock, Classical and World Music musician Double bass and electric bass player Born in Tel Aviv, 6 April 1975 Having studied the violin and classical guitar in his early years, Yaron moved on to the electric guitar, playing Rock and then Jazz, before taking up the bass guitar and the double bass. Yaron studied the double bass in Israel with Eli Magen, a member of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and Jazz musician. He played in concerts and festivals across Europe and Israel with the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors including Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Yuri Temirkanov and Kent Nagano. Between the ages of 17 and 21 Yaron was immersed in the Israeli Jazz and Rock scenes, playing with various singers and musicians and appearing on numerous recordings and television shows. In 1993 he met Gilad Atzmon and joined him in the bands Spiel and Spiel Acid Jazz. Together they recorded several albums and toured Israel. With Spiel and other Jazz bands Yaron played regularly at festivals including the Red Sea Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Jazz Festival and Israel Festival. Aged 21 Yaron moved to Berlin. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts with Rainer Zepperitz, former principal bass player of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. While playing in different Jazz bands, Yaron was involved with several Classical orchestras and chamber groups. He was principal double bass player of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, playing under Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Marris Jansons, Ivan Fischer, Franz Welser-Most, Sir Neville Mariner and others. He also played in North America and across Europe with orchestras including the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Gran Canaria Symphony Orchestra and I Fiaminghi Chamber Orchestra. He appeared at the Lucerne Festival, Salzburg Festival, Berlin Festival, Verbier festival and others. In 2002 Yaron moved to London, joining his long-time friend Gilad Atzmon as a member of the Orient House Ensemble. The band regularly tour Europe and have performed at the London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Appleby Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival, Leipzig Jazz Festival, Lausanne Jazz Festival, the Barbican, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Pizza Express Jazz Club in London’s Soho. Their album Exile won best CD in the 2003 BBC Jazz awards and in 2004 the band was nominated for best band in the same awards. In autumn 2004 the Orient House Ensemble released musiK: Rearranging the Twentieth Century and in 2007 their fifth album with Enja Records, Refuge. Yaron plays in other Jazz bands from the UK and has performed with artists across Europe including Peter King, Larry Coryell, Jarek Smietana, Leszek Mozdzer, Gary Husband, Julian Siegel, John Ethridge, Pete Oxley, Alan Barnes, Estelle Kokot, Gene Calderazzo, and Stephen Keogh. Since meeting him at a festival in Switzerland in 1997, he has played with violinist Nigel Kennedy, both as a member of the Nigel Kennedy Jazz Group in Berlin’s Jazz club Quasimodo and in festivals in the UK. In 2007 Yaron toured and released the album Tangents with Tango Siempre, Gilad Atzmon and Steve Arguelles. He also joined the Asaf Sirkis Trio with Asaf Sirkis and Tassos Spiliotopoulos with whom he released an album in 2008. Meanwhile Yaron’s involvement in Rock and World music develops. He played on Robert Wyatt’s 2003 album Cuckooland and 2007 album Comicopera and in 2003 recorded two albums for John Zorn’s label Tzadik with Koby Israelite. He appears on Phil Manzanera’s (Roxy Music) albums 6PM, Vozero and 50 Minutes Later, with musicians including David Gilmour, Robert Wyatt, Brian Eno and Chrisie Hynde. In early 2005 he recorded on David Gilmour’s latest album and in 2007 on an instrumental album with Phil Manzanera (to be released in 2008–09). -

Saw you play with Gilad last night in Brighton. Superb bass playing. Your sense of timing and harmony is amazing. Maybe a bass spot/solo? Otherwise fantastic gig. Will definitely try and get to London to see you play again.
