| Bio | Dan Rothenberg's career in stand-up comedy began in 1997 and has taken him all around the world and onto national television. Dan can now be seen in his highly acclaimed one person play "Regretrosexual." This labor of love was a big hit in San Francisco and a bigger hit in Los Angeles. Dan has received 13 glowing reviews and 3 really bad ones. Most recently, Dan was featured in an article with Billy Crystal in the Los Angeles Times which included a picture on the front page.
Dan Rothenberg was brought up in the suburbs of Detroit in the 1980s. After graduating from college, Dan decided to take a one year detour from his graduate studies in psychology and moved to San Francisco where he had access to standup open mikes. Grad school never happened but within three years Dan climbed to the top of the comedy scene working regularly at the Punchline and Cobbs Comedy Club. Working in San Francisco gave Dan the opportunity to perform with headliners such as Mitch Hedberg, Dave Attel, Jake Johansen, Brett Buttler, Robin Williams and George Lopez who requested Dan regularly for two years. Dan is opening for Hal Sparks in March, 2006. Dan was also featured in a number of articles in the SF Chronicle, SF Examiner, SF Weekly, and the Bay Area Reporter.
In 1998 Dan was chosen out of 300 comedians from the Bay Area to host the second annual Gala for the Mayor, Willie Brown at Davies Orchestra Hall. There he introduced Al Green to the stage.
In 1999 Dan was chosen to perform in the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal where he was featured in two sold out performances.
In 2001 Dan decided it was time to move to Los Angeles to get his comedy on the screen. He quickly landed a spot on NBCs Late Friday. He also was a semifinalist in Comedy Centrals Laugh Riots Contest and again in 2002. Dan performs all over Los Angeles including the Hollywood Improv where he has shared the stage with Drew Carey. He also recently opened for Lewis Black at the enormous Hilton Theater in Reno.
In 2005, Regretrosexual opened to sold out crowds in San Francisco and continues strong in Los Angeles in 2006.
