I'm a Principal with Norwest Venture Partners, where I focus on venture capital investments in mobile & digital media/entertainment, as well as China-related deals. You can catch me sharing ideas on mobile2.0, gaming, social media, and related topics at conferences including Digital Hollywood, RedHerring, AlwaysON, iHollywood, etc. Hit me up with any cool startups, ideas, or people that you're a fan of. :)
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to tie my personal passions of music, acting, gadgets, gaming, anime/comics, Google-fu, and general geekiness into my day job, and doing my small part to help bridge the worlds of Silicon Valley and Hollywood.
On the creative front, I was lead guitarist and co-founder of Blackporch along with amazing singer Jeffrey S. Ingram and prolific bassist Blyss. I've had the honor of playing lead guitar with acts including Nya Jade (aka Ama) and Chris Marsol, sharing the stage with artists such as The Roots and Alana Davis. One of these days, Jeffrey, Blyss and I are determined to "get the band back together"!
I've toured Asia with CitiZen X, my funk-rock group from my Tokyo days, and first discovered the joy of composing, recording and performing with Shataqua back in college (Jayson "Space Otter" Curry, and Klenton "Sage Kieran" Willis -- extraordinary musicians!).
At one time, I had delusions of movie star aspirations and still have the acting bug, having performed with Theatreworks and trained at the American Conservatory Theatre.
In my spare time, you'll find me exploring emergent behaviors out on the web, trying to wade through the deluge of email on the blackberry, logging embarrassing # of hours on the latest video games, devouring graphic novels/manga/anime, at the gym trying to get in "300" shape, writing music, scoping out new brunch spots, reading Wired magazine, and generally running around the SF Bay Area networking and hanging out with some truly innovative folks.
Who I'd like to meet: As many interesting people as I can from all different walks of life!
Text Me:
3jam has released a way cool "text me" widget, and their service also allows groups of friends to do "reply all text messaging"...which if you think about it, is a no-brainer functionality you'd think every phone should be equipped with already, eh? (Turns out you can do group texting...but recipients only see the senders name, and replies can only be to the sender)
Chat with me:
You can also leave me some voice bling -- call 1(641)985-7800 and enter *3714610. Extra credit if you leave your message in song (gangsta rap earns triple bonus points!)
We finally finished our new song "Island to City" and put it up on our site. When you get a chance please take a second to jam it, and thanks again for listening.
Much Love as Always,
-The Olive League
(p.s. jamming it in headphones makes a big difference :) )
