9/10 of the Law is one of those hard working bands you just have to respect the hell out of. They have been in the Denver metal scene smackin around their tunes for exactly 4 years now. Over those four years they have played hundreds of shows and developed their sound from being just another straight Pantera clone band into a more diverse metal band with songs that range from Soulfly to Super Joint Ritual to even Lollipop Lust Kill.
Over the four years of their existence there have been the usual line up changes bands deal with but the current roster seems to be a very solid unit with Jacob Althoff on vocals and guitars, Anthony Esposito on bass, Shannon Bogguess on guitars and Scott Smith hitting the drums. It is with this line up that 9/10 of the Law has hit it's stride opening up for national after national including such weirdly diverse acts as White Lion, Snot, and Fear. Now if that isn't a testament to how wide of a sound range 9/10 of the Law has I don't know what would be. Snot is just plain distilled badassery, Fear is the epitome of old school gutter punk, and White Lion is 80's power ballad hair rock. Not a lot of bands can pull off holding the interest of crowds as different as punks in a circle pit to cougars on girls’ night out. Somehow 9/10 of the Law pulls it off.
9/10 of the Law has definitely become one of the integral moving parts in the Denver metal machine not only with all their hardcore fans but also with all the other bands they work with. Althoff has been a major player on the booking scene for years and is one of the reasons the Denver metal scene is more united than most other cities of this size. He even booked my crappy punk band a few years back on the now legendary night when the Mongols (The motorcycle club not the citizens of Mongolia) decided to check out the show. That was a whole heaping spoonful of good times and it was the first time I noticed Jacob can't be rattled. The dude's a machine. Which probably helps with his current career choice at the venue I consider the coolest place this side of the sun: Club Inferno. If Club Inferno would let me I would move in.
9/10 of the Law has released 2 CDs so far over their career: A four song demo in January 2006 and a six-song recording in 2008. They are currently working on the material for a new CD to recorded and released here shortly. But the real power of this band is in the live show. These guys know how to really play and the vocals are way beyond the range of the endless Cookie Monster sessions most bands are using as a crutch these days. 9/10 of the Law plays out on a constant basis all over Denver. So whether you are a cougar or a gutter punk or anything in between if you are up for a solid good time with a wicked metal band that knows how to deliver the good times... go get you some.
