Bio
Fluffer is the Bay Area's foremost Blues and variety band; and the sole exponents of a style they have dubbed "Blueriety". They are an ensemble made up of experienced Blues hands who reach beyond the confines of the genre to include a mix of Surf tunes, Country killers, and crooner's delights within their repertoire of never-played Blues and R & B classics. Guitarist Dave Bernstein, the leader and founder of the group, has played with some of the biggest names on the Blues circuit, including Sammy Myers, Lazy Lester, Rod Piazza, and William Clarke. Bernstein's unusual fingerstyle technique masterfully blends traditional Blues with sophisticated Jazz elements with plenty of surprising twangs, twists, and turns along the way. Vocalist/Guitarist Eddie Davis' talents range as widely as the band's set list. Davis moves with ease from the soulful shout required for tunes by Otis Rush to the plain-spoken imagery of a George Jones number to swingers from the Sinatra songbook. Bass player Mike McCurdy, a long time veteran of the Chicago Blues scene, brings voluminous knowledge of Blues, Swing, and Rock idioms to the band. His credits include stints with Jimmy Rogers, Dave Specter, Sunnyland Slim, and Hubert Sumlin. Drummer Paul Revelli is a long time stalwart of the Bay Area music scene. He was a long time member of Joe Louis Walker's band, as well as currently being a long time member of Angela Straheli's band. Combining experience with a love of the songs they play (their sole criteria for additions to the set list), the members of Fluffer are very serious about the quality of the music they play, but comfortable enough with different musical styles, their audience, and each other to make each time they play a genuinely good time. -

For those of you who don't yet know, Fluffer guitarist and co-founder Dave Bernstein passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 after a three-year bout with cancer.
An elegantly fluid, sometimes driving and muscular, lyrical -- and always deeply and broadly schooled -- musician, Dave played his last gig on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 with the Dave Bernstein Duo at Cafe Devine in San Francisco's North Beach. Dave is survived by his wife, Siobhan Bernstein of San Francisco, his parents, Elinor and Arnold Bernstein, his brother Danny and his sister Debbie.
Our condolences to Dave's family...
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 13th at 4:30 p.m. at Sullivan's Funeral Home,
2254 Market St. in San Francisco, CA. There is parking at the facility. Phone: 415-621-4567.
Mark Zaretsky of The Cobalt Rhythm Kings -- a friend of Dave's since they played together in college at UC Santa Cruz in the early 1980s -- has put up a work-in-progress tribute page at www. cobaltrhythmkings. com/Dave_Bernstein. htm. Please feel free to pay it a visit.
R.I.P. Dave -- What a huge loss! You are totally missed!
