I am generally into being a mom, movies, Travel, Dancing, Hiking, Books, Kayaking, Learning about Other Cultures, Language, Movies, Education, The Peace Corps, Social Justice, Chocolate, trying to become more enlightened and competent, learning about being a more-informed citizen of the world trying to learn from my past- fix old mistakes and make less new ones, and trying to make time in order to enjoy my very blessed life and family.
Music
Jazz, Blues, Classical, Country, Rock, Musicals- a little bit of everything except electric Jazz. I especially love anything you can dance to. I love having "a song." That song that brings you back to another place and time-
Movies
The Princess Bride, Coming to America, Leathal Weapon, Moulin Rouge, The Professional, Sliding Doors, Chocolat, The Godfather (not II and III), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Amelie, The Incredibles, Suburbia, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, 50 First Dates, Gold Rush, The Kid, V for Vendetta, most Buster Keaton, Casablanca, Hero, Tootsie, Crash... I like movies that have interesting concepts, that inspire me to think and feel, and, well, cheesy romantic comedies.
Television
The Daily Show, Lost (yes, I'll admit it- the DVDs are pretty darn good), The Benny Hill Show... mmm, books- remember books? books are good.
Books
Stories of Guy de Maupassant, Pale Fire, anything Twain, anything C.S. Lewis, apparently anything Jared Diamond, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Utopia, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, essays of George Sand, anything Shakespeare... and for some reason I enjoy reading philosophy that is completely over my head.
Heroes
Nelson Mandela, Jackie Robinson, James Joyce, C.S. Lewis, Albert Erdynast, Aurore Dupin/George Sand, Walt Witman, and Jimmy Carter. People who stand up for truth and what they believe in, aren't afraid to feel or to try even if they make mistakes, fight opression and are pro-active members of society.
We live in Hawaii! We're so happy to be here, but miss our friends and family back in California... We own our first home here and have also added another member to the family- Keanu- a Chocolate Lab mix!
This was our wedding in 2006- 9 days after which we concieved Leilani!
I love to travel... it's a slow and expensive hobby though... So far I have been to 6 countries and 15 states (only 29% of the states)
Below are pictures from Tibet in September '06
..
Who I'd like to meet: Picasso, Samuel Clemens, Nelson Mandela, Joan of Arc, Bill Waterson, Dave Barry, great thinkers! Or maybe just nice, level headed people who think. Most of all I'd like to be able to spend more time with the amazing people in my life already so to build our relationships and really take the time to get to know them.
Hey Eileen! I hope you enjoyed the holidays with your family. Ah yes, I am not foregoing my dream of living on the islands yet. For the time being, I am unable to transfer. My company may not have any openings in Oahu for a while, and I don't see favorable job-hunting prospects in the current economy... I will have to wait and see.
On a side note, your blog on re-directing money for cable towards a higher cause encouraged me to do the same. Though it made Larry sad, we downgraded to a standard cable package, and used the difference to sponsor a little girl in Uganda. Just thought you should know that the little things you do and write about may positively influence those out in the cyber world.
I think I still have your number. If I am down in central Oahu (which is very likely in 2009), I definitely won't forget to give you a call. Most of my family resides in the Mililani/Waipahu areas; can't miss a chance to see Leilani!
Eileen, how are you dear girl? Thanks for the commentary, its nice to hear from you. The photos of your lil girl are really precious, shes lucky to have a mom with a decent head on her shoulders. That kid will probably save the world, but dont go telling her I said so, cause thats like a lot of responsibility for one kid to deal with right. Anyways, yeah I hope for the best in the future, but I wouldn't be surprised if things got a lot worse before they get better. It's natural that the world will go through that as another decadent empire trys expand beyond its ability. There is no sustainability built in to the dominant economies of the world, and naturally that won't work for much longer. One world government is more or less inevitable if people live long enough on this planet. How that all goes down is up to anyone. Like always, love is the best option. You look like your doing pretty good in that department, and its nice to see that. Take care, give care.
I know can you believe how time flies?! Your little one is too cute for words, how old is she now? Did you hear about Chris' new addition? Can't wait to meet him...
I'm just rounding things down at my parents home. August 1st, my new life begins at dental school for 4 years in New Orleans (LSU). Thanks for checking in. I trust you've been able to shell off the main-land habits by now and enjoy those $10 gallons of milk and $8 boxes of cereal in HI?
Hey you! Thanks so much for the voicemail update - it was nice to hear from you, and I'm glad everything's shaping up over there! I love that Leilani is hooked on that card ;)
I don't know if you got my reply message, I kept getting a MySpace error message -_- but no you belong on my friend's list and you always will. Love you and hope that all is well with you.
Aloha I hope all of you have arrived safely and are adjusting to the islands. Can't wait to go there myself. Let me know how your move went; I am beginning to stress over how to ship things over, etc. Good luck with everything!
My Goodness woman you make such a BEUTIFUL MOMMA! sorry havnt talked to you in a while.. its been crazy.. How are you and the lil one doing? She is absolutely gorgeous!
Hi there, ma'am. I wasn't sure if Willum told you already, but we're playing a Halloween show Sat. in yr hood (at good old Good Hurt) in case you don't already have Halloween plans (and are able to get a sittah). Would love to see you there!
