Northside Special is the brainchild of Dan McCandless and Mark Popeney, two of the former musical directors of Noteworthy, a UC Berkeley based men's a cappella group.
Noteworthy writes its own music, a feature not yet common in the collegiate a cappella scene.
Northside Special was created to see what happens when Noteworthy's normally-a cappella songs are fleshed out with the sounds of a full band.
Are these songs new explorations on Noteworthy's repertoire, or the way these tunes were originally meant to be heard?
Stay tuned, as more songs will come... In the meantime, check out the Noteworthy website to learn more about the group. These songs can be heard on both Noteworthy's most recent CD, 'Musings,' and the group's upcoming release (due Spring 2007).
I don't know what's up with myspace or something, but I totally can't play any of the songs. At any rate, I think this band sounds like a great idea Mark and friend.
