Less than one day after Barack Obama was sworn in as the nation's first African American president, The League of Young Voters Education Fund (LYVEF) announces the launch of 99Problems.org - a new online initiative to keep non-college and young urban voters involved in shaping the country during Obama's first hundred days in office.
Developed as a user friendly, online platform dedicated to addressing the everyday problems facing the youth of America, 99Problems.org will feature original video content from its users who are seeking solutions to their communities’ problems.
"Over the years The League of Young Voters Education Fund has brought in hundreds of thousands of unlikely voters into the political process," said LYVEF's Executive Director, Robert “Biko” Baker, who prior to taking his current position served as The Source Magazine's Political Correspondent. "It's only natural that we continue to make politics engaging and impactful through online programs like 99Programs.org, especially in an era in which the election of Barack Obama finally proves change through the electoral process."
By utilizing the wide reach of the online atmosphere, 99Problems.org encourages young users from across America to submit creative video testimonials outlining the biggest problems facing their communities to date. Everyday, site administrators will sift through submissions to post the day’s most engaging videos to the home page of 99Problems.org, while also offering a viable solution to each and every highlighted video in order to encourage community involvement on a national scale.
"During his historic speech yesterday, Obama called each of us to service," said LYVEF's Content Manager Sam Patton. "As young people we have to realize that after we've identified our problems we have to take action to make our communities better, otherwise nothing will change and we'll just become a nation of complainers."
More than just a platform to vent, 99Problems.org will also post stories and video from young leaders, organizations and communities that are working hard to solve our nation’s problems as well as featuring creative works of the nation's hottest musicians and spoken word artists focusing on change and progress.
