關於我： The 9th Street Community Garden was started in 1979 by Augustine (Nin) Garcia on a large fenced in vacant lot on the northeast corner of 9th Steet and Avenue C in The East Village, New York City. It is graced by a large weeping willow tree, evidence of an underground stream, which fortunately has made it less desirable for development to a certain extent. Today, the garden is one of the largest community gardens in New York City, having expanded to encompass one acre. It contains a stage and barbeque area, seating areas, fish pond, grape arbor, gazebo, a children's play area, a small lawn, herb garden, rose garden, composting area, and brick-lined walkways. The Garden has many well attended events and activites, including a summer concert series, Halloween celebrations, solstice celebrations, parties, plays, art exhibits and dance performances. Daycare centers and local school groups bring their classes to learn about gardening and to be exposed to nature. The garden even contains a beehive which is maintained by a local beekeeeper who sells the honey at the Union Square Farmer's Market. The 9th St. Community Garden is dedicated to providing a pleasant, open area for the community to enjoy. It has survived even as the city has closed more and more community gardens. This has made it an even more important resource for the surrounding neighborhood and for all our visitors from all over the world. We encourage you to enjoy this unique New York City experience. The 9th St. Community Garden is open every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5pm from April to October and many other times you will find the gate open. Please walk in. Hablamos español, mi amigo
