'Oxford's Skatalites'!!
Magnificent UK based seven piece combo playin' authentic, swinging ska & shufflin' rhythm n blues. Original sound and original tunes! The band has so far releases two great 45rpm releases on their own Nine Ton Records and Jewels Records, France. The vast majority of their material is self penned. They have played such venues and events as the Jazz Cafe and Cargo (London), Gaz's Rockin' Blues and Dance La Ska Festival in Rennes (France). Championed by many including Dave Edwards (Trojan Box Set Compiler),Gaz Mayal, Steve Lamaqq and DJ Smiler/Rude News who describes them as 'The best, most authentic ska ever played by white men'! They were recently refered to as 'Oxford's Skatalites'!!
Influences on their sound, which mixes ska and rhythm n blues with a dash of soul and jazz include the Skatalites, Prince Buster, Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Fats Domino, Huey Piano Smith, Rosco Gordon, James Brown and Ike Turner.
Their line up features the guitar playing, vocal and songwriting talents of the ubiquitous Sir Bald Diddley, the shufflin drums of Bash Brand (Milkshakes / Headcoats / Billy Childish / Link Wray / Holly Golightly), the trumpet of AJ (Intensified/ Laurel Aitken/ Dave Barker / Dennis Al Capone and Winston Francis) along with the double bass of 'Later' Ron McRobbie (previously of Sam Brown's band) , Kid Wig on piano(who has played in bands with Mick of Supergrass!), the tenor sax of Johnny Loafer (Reading's number one soul sax blower) and Napolean Trombonaparte on trombone (not suprisingly!!).
A night of authentic Jamaican-style Bluebeat and rhythm & blues is always assured.
Good to see you supporting The Skatalites on Saturday - last time I saw you was in a pub in Reading, but this venue did you justice. My kids thought you should have been top of the bill!
Thank you a lot for the brilliant night! you guys are awesome...the best ska band in town... we can definitely say that we love you and we definitely gone try to get you back... Love amp

Great gig on Sunday guys, widely regarded (well by me and Nick anyway)as one of your best ever. Helped by the "intimate" surroundings of the Brickworks.
One plea on behalf of the loyal fans though: can you play your next gig at a pub that actually has some BEER!!
Crikey! I've also heard the the fabulous Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers are playing at The Cowley Road carnival on Sunday!!!! Can it really be true???..... That's Sunday @ 2.00pm outside The Brickworks if I'm not mistaken!!!!
OI!!! I heard .........Super Ska and Rhythm n Blues for Free! The Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers play Cowley Road Carnival, Oxford this Sunday (July 1st). Playing outside the Brickworks on the Skylarkin Soundsystem Stage at 2.00 pm. But don't tell anyone, eh!!!!!
For some bizzare reason, all my friends have been sent this picture of a bird's arse! I think it's a virus thing so don't click on it! Dont know who's arse it is, (though it looks fine!) Be warned.
All friends of the Peanut Smugglers are welcome to Mel and Mad Jeff's wedding do at The Cricketers on May 12th. Musical entertainment courtesy of Sir Bald and the lads! Come down and buy me a drink!
