About me:

Member Story: Fred and Judy Sheridan, North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania

While on vacation in the Colorado-New Mexico area, my wife, Judy, and I decided to return home approximately one week early. Not sure of the best way to change our airline tickets, we stopped at the Santa Fe, New Mexico, AAA office in hope of finding a knowledgeable person to assist us. Here we met Lyn Lang, who is much more than a professional. She went the extra mile and made us feel quite comfortable while she handled the whole process for us, and it invoked several complications with the airline that would have been extremely frustrating if we tried to accomplish this on our own. Lyn has a very friendly personality and shows a concern for her customer that is very comforting. As the roadblocks occurred, she assured us that it would only be a slight delay and explained what was happening and how it would progress so that we never felt left out in the dark. Lyn deserves to be recognized for taking the time to make out-of-state travelers feel at home, knowing her profession and taking the time to keep her customers informed as to what is transpiring. Her cheerful conversation was an added plus.

64th AAA Revival Glidden Tour

Photos from the 64th AAA Revival Glidden Tour hosted by AAA Colorado and the Antique Automobile Club of America Rocky Mountain Region Aug. 23-28.

The Glidden Tour is the largest continuous antique automobile tour in the world. Originally designed as public demonstrations of vehicle reliability, the tours were organized in the early 1900s by Charles Glidden to promote auto travel. After World War II, the Veteran Motor Car Club of America revived the tour, which is now held in different metro areas each year.

The 2009 tour drew more than 100 participants, behind the wheels of 60 antique vehicles, circa 1942 or older. Making roadside assistance available to valuable and unusual automobiles is an important part of AAA’s responsibilities. AAA Colorado’s Terry McMullen volunteered to follow the tour each day with a flat bed truck, earning the nickname “the good shepherd” from a participant.

The Glidden Tour first visited the Denver area in 1909, when rutted roads and deep potholes proved treacherous to even the sturdiest Model T and Hupmobile. Driving conditions were definitely better in 2009, and best of all, AAA has been just a phone call away in Colorado since 1922.
