"Samuel M. Whitlach is a singer songwriter working under the moniker A Man Named Samuel and this is his commercial debut. Although this is his debut he has recorded several self released albums, formally trained as an artist he has traded in his brush for guitar and microphone. This record began way back in 2006 while Whitlach was attending school in California. As you can gather this is modest work which features only acoustic instruments, a few hand-claps and Sam’s voice. The comparison with Bob Dylan is evident but he also sounds a little like Josh Ritter, and I’m sure with a bit more cash behind him Samuel would be able to put more colours onto his canvas.
"Lyrically Whitlach is a wordsmith demonstrated on the bitter ‘Necessary Unpleasantries’ where Sam tells us ‘Last night, so deep, I did burn your flag, completely, In a rolling dream that held less haze, than these disappointing days’. If you like your music stripped down then this is for you."
