Music, old music, new music, music that no one's heard for 400 years, making up new words, janky, scran, THE LANG, taint-fiddles, guys that keep me waiting, foreigners, Turks, making out, making trouble, getting kicked out of bars (still waiting for that to happen), writers, musicians, books, Enneagram (I'm a 4), artifical ficas, dust bunnies, PFLAG, the scaffolding that has been outside my dining room window for a year, Eddie Izzard, singing, dying my hair, cosmetology, psychology, early opera, Monteverdi, Ravel, Crumb, Ives, Ginastera, musicology, hang-gliding, the apocalypse, the Democratic party, junk collecting, jazz, a cappella ensemble, Collegium Musicum, the Ensemble Seicento (our band!), early music, religion (without participation), beer, fancy beer, salsa music, dairy products, my friends' bands, strangers' bands, rock and roll, old music, new music, cornrows.
I, AmyDarlin80, am: less old-fashioned, less pure, hornier, sloppier, less ambitious, less moral and more independent than most.
Music
I am a chamber music singer. Got to figure out how we're going to keep our early music ensemble together without its founder, JOSH! So now I'm just sort of gigging about, singing with some jazz people (something I fantasize about being good at but in fact have no gift for), and taking time to improve myself vocally. I spend most of my time supporting my friends' bands. I love live music in Memphis. A lot of people think it sucks or that it's cheesy, but they are all just fucking around on Beale Street with the tourists. Just get out there and see some bands! As for my CD player, I've got Frank Zappa, Damien Rice, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Cee-lo, Bjork, Beatles, the Who, Stevie Ray Vaughan, U2, Outkast, Elliot Smith, the Police, the Mambo Kings soundtrack, Jeff Buckley, Andrew Bird, the Stooges, Cheap Trick, David Bowie, Basement Jaxx, Jordi Savall, Tori Amos, Jurassic 5, Sigur Ros, Kasey Chambers, NERD, The Faint, Missy Elliot, MC CHRIS, Rachael Yamagata, Ben Folds (Five), Beck, Prince, Sting, Tarkan, Erika Badu, T-Rex, Queen, Johnny Cash, BHANGRA, D'Angelo, Tenacious D, the Taal soundtrack, Spacehog, Yoko Kanno, Willie Nelson, Ricky Scaggs, Radiohead, Annie Lennox, Lords of Acid, The Kinks, The Strokes, Hives, Libertines and other one-word plural band names; Muse,The White Stripes, The Rapture... and whatever else you wanna throw my way.
Movies
"Death comes to us all, Orokusake, but to you comes something much, much worse. For when YOU die, Orokusake, you die without... HONOR!" And then Splinter kicks Shredder off the building and into the dumpster.
Brazil, Rushmore, Blade Runner, Dancer in the Dark, Young Frankenstein, SLC PUNK!, Kill Bill, Ninja Scroll, Napoleon Dynamite, Closer, Dogville, Velvet Goldmine, Ed Wood, Pi, The Big Lebowski, The Life of Brian, The Shining, Best in Show, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Time Bandits, A Mighty Wind, Barton Fink, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Bowling for Columbine, Farinelli, Emmanuelle, Akira, The Matrix, A Clockwork Orange, Waking Life, This is Spinal Tap, Pulp Fiction, Edward Scissorhands, Taal, Trekkies, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Full Metal Jacket, The Poor and the Hungry, Mystery Train, Amelie, Don Juan deMarco, Dr. Strangelove, Hairspray, Sin City, and fuckin' ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE! And Natalie Portman is my girlfriend.
Television
Basically all I watch now is the Daily Show, Colbert Report, SouthPark, the Adult Swim cartoons (Venture Brothers!!) and Spongebob. Sometimes I watch Discovery if there's a show about dinosaurs or outer space or physics. And I watch the movie channels, but that's not the same, is it?
Remember The Maxx and AeonFlux? I love those shows. Also love The Tick, cartoon AND live action versions. The Muppet Show was a great show. Monty Python's Flying Circus another brilliant one. TV is better on DVD.
