About me: Jambo! My name is Brittany Burrows. I am a recent graduate of the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. I am active at the Denton Wesley Foundation, and Director of Youth Ministries at Krum United Methodist Church. Two summers ago, I traveled to Cameroon, Africa with the Wesley Foundation to lead music at a youth camp for teenagers. My experience in Africa was life-changing; I experienced God's love in a way I never had before as I grew in faith with our African sisters and brothers. Since returning home I have felt a calling to go back to Africa to serve children and youth. In August, I am going to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa as a United Methodist Individual Volunteer in Mission! I will be serving at the Jamaa Letu Orphanages and teaching at a Methodist school. There are about 50 girls and 25 boys at the orphanage. I will be serving them by developing music, sports, bible studies, and other various ministry programs.

As an Individual Volunteer in Mission, I am trying to raise all the money I need to live in Africa. This money will pay for my airfare, room and board, shots, and other travel expenses. I hope to live there for a year, and as you might expect, it is going to be expensive - my goal is to raise $20,000 dollars. By supporting me, you will be giving hope to children who have lost their parents to AIDS and need to know that people from the other side of the world love them. The slideshow above features mission trip pictures of me and my friend Christina Cavener, who will also be serving at the Jamaa Letu Orphanages. Some of these pictures are from our trip to Cameroon, West Africa, where we helped lead a youth camp for teenagers. Others are from Matamoros, Mexico, where we delivered food to flood victims and served at Casa Bugambilia. Christina and I have been on staff together at the Denton Wesley Foundation, and she is currently the Youth Ministry Intern at FUMC Rockwall. Christina and I were trained by the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church to become officially recognized as Individual Volunteers in Mission.
