In the early spring of 2007, Awake! Awake! guitarist Andrew Goodwin and drummer Blake Noel were tweaking a few barebones song ideas in the bonus room of their house in Murfreesboro, TN, dwelling in virtual rock obscurity. All the while, fellow guitarist Joshua Parker and vocalist David Johnson were busy recording humble acoustic demos in the tight quarters of a friend’s walk-in closet. Few would’ve guessed that now, after such a brief stint since fusing their efforts, they would already have one album under their belt and be hard at work on a second. Those who take a closer look, though, will find that the rise really isn’t all that shocking.
With expertly-crafted guitar riffs, soaring vocals, skillful and steady rhythms, and poignant lyrics, Awake! Awake! has a knack for creating song after song that continues to resonate with their listeners. And thanks to Goodwin’s mixing talents, the debut album “We’ve Been Strangers” has an incredibly polished, professional sound. Still, the overwhelming consensus among fans is that you haven’t fully experienced Awake! Awake! until you’ve seen them live. All the energy, enthusiasm, and theatricality are on full display—all the while never losing the solid, refined sound that is their hallmark.
Never wanting to be confined by labels or comparisons, the band cites such influences as Jimmy Eat World, Mute Math, Switchfoot, Copeland, and the Cure at the top of their extensive list. Above all, the band wants to continually stretch the boundaries of their new wave rock sound. And while they’ve already begun to make a name for themselves in Middle Tennessee venues, they hope to expand their horizons and elevate the atmosphere of their live shows in the near future.
Parker and original bassist Chad Chrisman, who both helped record the debut album, left the band in 2008 on good terms. Recently added are guitarist Dan Johnson and bassist Andrew Kaiser. They as well have recently left on good terms. Newly added is bassist Chad Turner and we are currently working on a new bio and myspace design. All this stuff is quite out of date.
