About Awen

We are proud to announce that work is finished on our first full-length release, The Bells Before Dawn, which is now available as a limited 12" record on the vinyl label DAIS (their page is linked below). I feel that the ritual and tradition involved with the vinyl medium is ideal for the birth of our first volume. The album includes some familiar songs reworked as well as new tracks.

Spiralling cinders of the soul from the ether since the Fall of 2003. Awen is a vehicle for the visions and intonations of Erin Powell with the chief assistance and musicianship of Eric Kristopher of the Industrial electronic project unitcode:machine. The music of Awen is inspired by a feeling of communion with ancestral entities and archetypal imagery. Awen is an old Brythonic word for inspiration and the music itself reflects the Celtic and Nordic lineage of the members and their inspiration therefrom. The sound is a communication with and from the dead that live on in our very bodies via DNA. The bonds of blood are never broken. You are your ancestor. This blood mysticism is the crux of the work. In order to represent this ideology we have chosen to describe the project's sound as Ancestral Ambient.

We have recently created a second page in order to share more of our music. The music there is perhaps in a slightly different vein.
