In the mid 70's Joost and Paul played together in obscure bands like Cyclopedia, Atlantic Crossroad and Bracelet. They both got kicked out of Bracelet (Paul was even kicked out twice!). After that they both went their own way. In 1979 Paul started his own new-wave band called The Headlines with former Bracelet bass player Herman de Vos, guitar player Bart Edel and drummer Leonard de Vlieger (both ex-Concussion).
Early 80's Joost changed his guitar for the bass when he was asked by ex-Bracelet drummer Henri Versteeg to play in a band called Barst.
Paul's band The Headlines split up around 1981. First Herman de Vos left the band for personal reasons. Soon after that Bart Edel and Leo de Vlieger left the band to join Anton van der Mee's (ex-Joey) new project Wow!.
Paul and Joost teamed up again in 1982 in a cover band called The Covers. Playing in The Covers was a lot of fun but being in a cover band left very little room for their own creative thing....
So, somewhere in 1984, Paul and Joost decided to start their own new band. They both wanted the new band to be completely different from what was going around at the time. Joost and Paul were fed up with the so called 'famous' musicians of the local pop scene and decided to go look for 'fresh' new members.
Joost invited Bob, former guitar player of Concussion for an audition. After Bob was added to the new band Joost asked Camiel to become their drummer. Camiel had drummed in several bands in the 70's but hadn't been active in music for a longer period. The combination of this four totally different musicians proved out to be a perfect match.
The name Baden Baden was chosen by Paul just because he liked double names (like Medium Medium, Duran Duran and Talk Talk at the time). The only difference is that Baden Baden actually is a town (kür-ort) in Germany where Paul used to stay for a night on his way to his ski holidays in Switzerland.
Their first gig was in the same year (1984) in a pub called "De Mol" in Someren. After that they played almost every pub in the region of Eindhoven where they became very populair. Soon after their first gigs they hit the big stage playing together with famous Dutch bands like De Dijk, Time Bandits and Roberto Jacketti.
Together with other regional bands Baden Baden made the lp "Made In Brabant". The two Baden Baden songs on the album are "One Summer" and "Golden Dreams".
Baden Baden then entered a regional band competition called "Parel van Tilburg" where they reached the final. Eventhough they did not win they had drawn the attention of the national radio station KRO for who they did several live and studio performances. Also they were noticed by producer Ton Masseurs (ex-Tumbleweeds who had a number 1 country hit in the US with a song called 'Somewhere Between'). Ton Masseurs invited Baden Baden to his studio to make a demo. Several record companies showed interest but it never got to a record deal...
Paul decides to leave the band in 1989 and persue his career in politics (Paul got elected twice for the city council). The other Baden Baden members continued, later changing their name into "What's New".
Many years later Paul emerged out of nowhere as the weird vocalist (wearing strange outfits, fake mustache and lots of Brylcreem in his hair using the psuedo name Arno Treffers) in a cover band called The Low Budget Symphony Orchestra.
The other Baden Baden members disbanded What's New only to join eachother again some years later in Moller-Ex.
LATEST NEWS:
On December 1th 2007 Baden Baden did a reunion gig 'The Final Curtain' at Iets Anders, Waalwijk in The Netherlands.
Baden Baden played one of their best gigs ever and where overwelmed by the enthousiastic response of the audience. Paul's last words were 'see you again in 20 years...!'.

Ik heb met haar de dictie van de tekst"how's life at Windsor castle, the ease of France will never be the same" door genomen, dus dat komt goed. Veel succes, misschien dat ik de after-party nog haal. Groeten, Leo.
Hi Paul Thanks for stopping by and your message. I don't mind opinions at all, at the contrary, it's important to know how other people think and feel about your music. But you know with languages it's a very delicate thing, because it's really also very much a matter of taste, like the music itself. A lot of people prefer when I sing in English, others in Spanish. The thing is, I feel comfortable in both languages. I hope you stop by my page now and then, I will do the same. Have a great week. Olivia
