I BELGRAVE SQUARE nascono nel 1991, il gruppo ruota intorno alle figure di Italo Siddu e Giovanna Liccardi, già fra i fondatori negli anni 80 di un altro gruppo cagliaritano di musica folk celtica.
La band è diretta emanazione della Sezione Sardegna (la prima in Italia) del KOLTUS, l’associazione musicale irlandese, ente che si occupa di promuovere la cultura tradizionale dell’Irlanda nel mondo e che conta circa 500 sezioni sparse in tutto il mondo (compresa l’Ungheria, il Sudafrica e la Corea !)
Col tempo i BELGRAVE SQUARE sono diventati a Cagliari un vero e proprio fenomeno di costume, con un numero sempre più crescente di fans che poche band in Sardegna possono vantare.
Dal 1991 ad oggi i BELGRAVE sono stati protagonisti di oltre cento concerti in tutta la Sardegna. A ciò va aggiunta la partecipazione a tre grossi festival nel continente: il Festival Interceltico di Trezzo (MI), la rassegna Celtic Colours di Soiano del Lago (BS) e il Venezia Folk Festival, dove si sono esibiti prima di gruppi come DERVISH, TANNAHILL WEAVERS, AMAZING BLONDEL. Nel 1999 hanno aperto lo spettacolo dei LIA LUACHRA a Cagliari della prima edizione di "Irlanda in festa ... a Cagliari" - St. Patrick's Day ed hanno partecipato a Castelnuovo ne’ Monti (RE) alla serata con THE CHIEFTAINS. Sempre nell’estate ’99 hanno preso parte ad alcuni festival nella provincia di UDINE.In occasione della seconda (2000) di "Irlanda in festa ... a Cagliari" St. Patrick's Day hanno aperto il concerto dei CRAOBH RUA. Hanno inoltre suonato sul palco del Piccolo Auditorium, di Cagliari con FRANKIE E SEAN GAVIN, (2004) CHRISTY LEHAY TRIO (2005) e con JIM MURRAY E SEAMUS BEGLEY (2007).
Il repertorio comprende brani da danza (jigs, reels, hornpipes), canzoni e ballate tradizionali e d’autore e brani della tradizione "classica" irlandese risalente al XVII-XVIII secolo.
Lo spettacolo dei BELGRAVE è stato proposto in teatri, scuole, piazze, festival, persino in strada ed ha riscosso ovunque grande successo, grazie alla simpatia, all’allegria del repertorio ed all’indubbia perizia tecnica dei componenti.

The Belgrave Square was born in 1991, the band was founded by Italo Siddu and Giovanna Liccardi, who were among the founders of another band of celtic folk music from Cagliari in 1980s.
The band is strictly connected to the Sardinia branch of KOLTUS (the first in Italy), the Irish musicians association, that deals with promoting the cultural tradition of Ireland all over the world and that has about 500 branches spread on the earth (included Hungary, South Africa and Corea !)
In the time the BELGRAVE SQUARE has become a real custom phenomenon, with a number even more growing of fans that not so many bands in Cagliari can boast.
Since 1991 till today the BELGRAVE has been protagonist of more than 100 concerts all over Sardinia. To these it can add the partecipation to three great festivals on the Italian mainland: the Interceltic Festival in Trezzo (Milan), Celtic Colours in Soiano del Lago (Brescia) and the Venezia Folk Festival, where the Belgrave played before bands like DERVISH, TANNAHILL WEAVERS, AMAZING BLONDEL. In 1999 it introduced the concerts of LIA LUACHRA in Cagliari for the first edition of "Irlanda in festa... a Cagliari" St. Patrick's Day and took part to the concerts in occasion of that of THE CHIEFTAINS in Castelnuovo ne' Monti (Reggio Emilia). In 99 summer it took part to some festivals in Udine. In occasion of the second edition of "Irlanda in festa... a Cagliari" - St. Patrick's Day the Belgrave opened the concert of CRAOBH RUA. Moreover, they played on the stage of Piccolo Auditorium in Cagliari with FRANKIE AND SEAN GAVIN, (2004) CHRISTY LEHAY TRIO (2005) and with JIM MURRAY AND SEAMUS BEGLEY (2007).
Belgrave's repertory includes dance tunes (jigs, reels, hornpipes), traditional and new songs and ballads and tunes of the Irish classic tradition dating back to XVII-XVIII century.
BELGRAVE's concert has been proposed in theatres, schools, squares, festivals, even on the road and it always and everywhere had great success, thanks to its liking, the cheerfulness of the repertory and the undoubted technical skill of its members.
In November 1999 its first MC production was edited with the title "Cearnog Belgrave"
