Four-year-old Maleek Kattara of Richmond, gets a kiss Saturday from mom Alisha during the Madison County Relay for Life kickoff outside the county courthouse. Maleek, who is remission from a rare cancer, has had two bone marrow transplants and radiation in the past three years. This is a new group that my 3 year old son inspired me to start. In March of 2006 my son Maleek Kattara was diagniosed with AML with NK cell. A very rare form of Leukeimia. He has had chemo, radiation, two bone marrow transplants. dozens of bone marrow asprites and lumbar punctures, 3 central lines, 6 pic lines and a tumor in his eye. They told me to plan for his funeral the last time he relasped. 2 weeks later he was in remission thanks to an experimental drug called malatarg.
We have watched many of his friends die. their ages range from 2 to 14. Most of them died because they had no bone marrow match. Unless you have seen a child waste away and die of cancer you have no idea how hard it is. You can say how sad and cry. You can say poor baby... Or you could go to the nearest blood center TODAY and become a bone marrow donor and know hat you have saved a child's life! Personally I like the last option better. If everyone in the world that was able to donate did there would be no kids dying because they dont have a match.

anyone with out a blood disease can become a donor. Minorities are needed because they are the ones donating the least. African Americans are the best donors for African American children, Indians and Hispanics are the best for Indian and Hispanic kids. Whatever you are is who you save.

Pregnant women ask you obgyn's how to donate your umbelical cord to research for free. 2 cord blood stem cell transplants saved my son! Think of all the babies born in the world every minute and then think of what a tragedy it is that there is roughly 2,800 available for transplants. There is no other word for it but tragic.
To be a member of the street team is simple. Simple make a flyer with something catchy on it like my back window says " One hour of your time and one pint of your blood may save my son's life. Become a bone marrow donor!". And then under it has the number to the nearest blood center office. Make sure to include that number on your flyer. It doesnt have to be fancy. it doesnt have to be a whole sheet of paper even. You can make four on a page easily. Print them out and then go to the nearest mall, walk through the bus station, got to july fourth parades, go where ever the people are and hand them out. And some people wont take them, some will ignore you but in the end more will stop and pay attention. Ask local stores to put flyers in the window, tape them to street posts, ask stores to use them as bag stuffers. GET THE WORD OUT HOWEVER YOU CAN. And at the end of the day know that you are a hero to these children.
THAT'S TRULY ALL THEY NEED. ONE MORE PERSON TO DONATE JUST FOR THEM. ONE MORE PERSON TO SPREAD THE WORD JUST FOR THEM. BECAUSE ONE MORE PERSON DONATING SAVES ONE MORE OF THEIR LIVES. BE THAT ONE PERSON!

Miss Christina Milian, and Donnie Klang from making the band are BMST CELEBS OF 2008. BMST went to the Jingel Bell Ball at Blue Moon 13/09/08 and half the money raised went to Dance Blue which everyone who is a team member already knows helps raise money for kids with cancer, and the UK Peds Hemoc Clinic. They both did awesome jobs getting the people who came involved and even danced with one of our memebers during one of her songs.
They support us and our kids in thier fight so now it's time for us to support them. Christina and Donnie both have cds out that are perfect for teens and lil kids that like to dance and sing.
Donnie has making the band on MTV. Everyone tune in in Feb to see the street team in action. Christina has a wide varity of movies out also.

Donnie is currently on P Diddy's show making the band. After battling it out for a spot in a band he was chosen for a solo career. His smooth voice and R&B mixed with a lil pop album would be a great gift for any teeny bopper and who knows moms you will probably like it too. He is the next big thing. Hopefully we will see him in some movies soon too.

I am starting a petition so that no more umbelical cords will be thrown away. They will instead be automatically sent to the cord bank so that the cord blood can be used for transplants.
